It's straightened out now and the accelerator pump seems to work correctly. Warmed it all up, re-adjusted the idle mixture, the base idle and the timing, and we're in much better shape now. All the plugs are now copper colored and none of them has the gas powdered fouling. The engine stuttering see...

The FMX (1968/ ) has a separate bell. The PX (2S) (1959/1963) has the one piece bell/main (alum) case.

On the bellcrank there is a line that comes from the power steering pump and goes to some kind of switch or sensor on the center of the bellcrank. We are trying to figure out what it is for and why something dealing with P/S would be located on the throttle linkage. That is a idle speed step-up fea...

It appears to be correct as it has a Six Digit DSO Code and the Bolt-On tower brace instead of regular production weld-on.

The rear housing is incorrect.

The 289 HIPO was not offered in 1968. There was a running change from the 289 (standard) to the new 302.

Scroll down the page and read the dampener and counterweight entries. It sounds like you may have mixed components causing the vibration.
