Re: C-6 install
Years ago, my dad had a cleveland with a c6 in his. He used the persuasion hammer and sledgomatic to make it fit. To get to the top two bell housing bolts he drilled 2 holes through the firewall and stuck a extension on a ratchet to install and remove them. Then put a grommet in the hole to seal bac...

Re: 65 comet polyurethane bushing kit
Confusing, I agree. I ordered the wrong ones at first. The one in the link is the one that I put on the car. I forgot to take a picture of the poly units next to the rubber ones for comparison.

Re: 65 comet polyurethane bushing kit
I ended buying some polyurethane bushings from a offroad vehicle website. The bushings i bought were for a jeep with 2 1/2 wide leaf springs.

Re: Loman's '65 race car
Got everything buttoned up and drove up and down the driveway. Everything seems to be good. Just need to readjust the brakes some more but I will do that later. Need to put this car in the corner and get working on the other car.

Re: 65 Comet with 390
I also drilled and tapped a drain plug on the bottom of the housing. Then we mounted the housing in the car and put the third member in it to get driveshaft measurement. That is now on order as well. So now I am in a holding pattern again until I get some more parts.

Re: 65 Comet with 390
I had to modify the backing plates for the new housing. The spring plates on the 8" are located just above the 2 bump outs on the backing plate for the emergency brake cable so no big deal. On the 9" with the bigger diameter housing the emergency brake bumps on the backing plates interfed with the s...

Re: 65 Comet with 390
Since I couldn't purchase new spring plates and ubolts from Caltracs i modified the existing spring plate. You can see the new ubolt I purchased for the 3.125 housing as compared to what was on the car. I purchased the ubolts and new spring perches from an off road truck website. Then i just elongat...

Re: 65 Comet with 390
We jacked up car and put a 4x8 sheet of plywood underneath. Then we took a plumbob and made marks for outside face of brake drum, both inside & outside of each leaf spring. Then made a mark for centerline of leaf spring and pinion. After a lot of comparing between the 8 and 9" housings we decided we...

Re: 65 Comet with 390
Before I did anything I took measurements of current tire clearance on the inside of tire to leaf spring. The distance was the about same on both sides front and back of tire. About 1.125 to 1.250. Took these measurements with suspension loaded. Car was sitting on dollies on all 4 wheels. https://i....

Re: 65 Comet with 390
Still waiting for axles. But here is a couple of pics of what I have done. The housing I am narrowing is a 9" from a 68 F100. The engine must have been offset as both axles are the same length and almost the same size as the long axle on the stock 8" comet. The axle tube is 3.125 diameter. I called ...

Re: 65 comet polyurethane bushing kit

Re: 65 comet polyurethane bushing kit
Thanks Jim. Do you know the OD of the bushing? The webpage didnt give that dimension. The one I have is 1” od. I searched the forum earlier and it seems the od had been an issue with other people in the past. I will call them on Monday to confirm.
Thanks again for the lead.

Re: Loman's '65 race car
Well I received a new axle today and all is good now. I got the bearings and studs installed and put the axles back in the car. Got the brakes adjusted close, will probably need a little more adjustment later. Now I just need to get the diagonal link bar installed and tighten all the 4 link bolt and...
