Re: Seeking Steering Box
Thanks, Rocket. I did fill the case with Moly grease. The gear turns nice and easy, and I really don’t have any serious steering problems, but I’ve got the usual two-or-so inch play (in each direction). I will eventually be doing the whole front end, and would like to have a great steering box to to...

Re: Seeking Steering Box
Can anyone verify if a 62 Falcon and 62 Comet have the same steering gear box? I found one for a Falcon, but need it for my Comet. Also, anyone have experience with sector shaft adjustment? Thanks

Re: Seeking Steering Box
Thanks....I didn’t see one for a 62 Comet on their site, but I’ve emailed them. Chris

Seeking Steering Box
Hello All, Can anyone suggest where I might find a steering gear box for a 62 Comet? (New or rebuilt). I’m in Texas, but stuff can be shipped anywhere these days of course. Thanks, Chris

Re: 170 6cyl Advice - 1962 Comet Custom
You sound like you've taken the same approach I did with my '62 144. While pulled, I had a nice valve job done with new (larger) valve stems rather that getting the guides sleeved. I also had the head milled a bit. Remember, you'll want to mill about .025 just to compensate for the thicker aftermark...

Re: 62 front drum brakes
I've considered that. Ironically though, my brakes tighten by turning the star wheel counterclockwise (if you are looking from the front of the car). They would have to tighten clockwise in order for the little adjusting 'shoe' to press down on the star. Maybe when they went to auto adjusters, they ...

Re: 62 front drum brakes
Yeah, My 62 has no auto adjuster and only the spring resting on the star wheel. Seems like about once a month I have to adjust the brakes, but more so on the left side--they seem to work loose quicker. It's a mystery.

Attended Car Show Today
Hello All, I attended a local car show today with my '62. I was parked between a 1969 and 2001 Corvette--but there was great interest in my car--comments like "it's different", "it's a driver, not something you just polish and put back in the garage", and of course " I had one like this when I was y...

Re: Carb Mystery!
Thanks for the help--I just looked, and yes the hole goes through, just a simple setup with no filtered air. I'm guessing an idle adjustment on a manual choke would be much leaner than with an auto choke...

Re: Carb Mystery!
Ok, Thanks--I noticed by sucking on it that a passage goes down to the carb base. My next question...where the hole is in the top of the exhaust manifold--does it "dead end" or go all the way to the bottom? In other words, is air being sucked through constantly, or is it just a vacuum pulling on the...

Carb Mystery!
Ok, I just put a nice rebuilt Holley 1909 on my 144. It ran great, so I turned it off and then fashioned a hot air choke tube for it. After installing that, I turned the car back on, and for no apparent reason it started sucking vacuum through the auto choke housing! (Through the opening that the ch...

Re: 144 is Back Baby!
Thanks for the support--my son and I were out running errands in it today--lots of compliments and smiling faces. As far as the valve job, the motor only had 38k original miles, and didn't use any oil, so hopefully I'm safe with that.

144 is Back Baby!
Ok, Pops, I'm ready for 100 lashes with a wet noodle...after having too much trouble with my 200 (bad rings, glazed cylinders, blowing oil), I reinstalled the 144--freshened up with a valve job, new gaskets, timing set, big exhaust manifold, and water pump. It's not a 200, but about as peppy as a 14...

Re: Newb from Azusa, CA with a 62 Comet
Welcome! I also have a '62--and was in the service back in the day (Hey, the first Gulf War wasn't THAT long ago!). I couldn't help but notice your spelling of "endeavour." Have you spent time in Britain, or just a proper speller!

Re: Comet Reviews In The Media
I'd like to see more of that, too. I did find a few interesting bits on YouTube, not reviews however--but rather dealer training films that compare the 61 Comet to all sorts of competitors--completely biased, but interesting nonetheless. Just go to YouTube and do a search using a phrase like "1961 C...
