Re: 1964 Caliente got wrecked today
Update 6 months later: I have a fair insurance settlement. The car is salvageable and tear down is complete. I got a donor chassis from down south with mostly good panels and parts. What’s missing: the hood on the donor car turned out to have hidden rust and bondo. So I still need a good hood withou...

Re: 1964 Caliente got wrecked today
Making progress slowly. Waiting for the first insurance assessment report to see what they offer me.
Once I have an idea what I'm working with, ill starting talking about sourcing parts.
So far it looks like no frame damage or anything behind the front axle / shock tower zone.

Re: 1964 Caliente got wrecked today
Jim, that's awesome. Thanks. I might take you up on that but there's got to be something in it for you. Don't know if you're a bourbon drinker. Motor City Gas distillery is right up the road from my place. I could send you something from them. I'll let you know what's up after I asses the damages. C...

Re: 1964 Caliente got wrecked today
Thanks y'all, short update: @Sassy I have the Comet shop manual so I book marked that page 17-006. Really good detail. I cleaned out the garage today. Insurance company is getting it towed back to my place and I will start measuring out the frame points. One of the officers of the local chapter of F...

Re: 1964 Caliente got wrecked today
Thanks guys. I will post photos. I will definitely be interested in parts if you have them. Yeah, traffic here around Woodward and the mile roads is crazy these days. I live about a mile and a half from the intersection you're talking about. Drove through it today as a matter of fact. Big question: ...

1964 Caliente got wrecked today
My son and I were enjoying a nice drive here in Royal Oak, Michigan. We were crossing an intersection just a block from my house, we had the green light. A lady ran her red light and we could not stop in time. Rammed pretty hard. We were not hurt besides a couple of bruises. She admitted fault, a wi...

Re: 1964 Comet Caliente 404 Radio Bezel
I got one from EBay about 2 years back. Just have to keep looking.
My original also had the thin middle bar cut out by a PO so they could put in a junk aftermarket stereo.
Also took me a while to find the 64 radio but ultimately one turned up.
If you want my other bezel let me know.

Re: Steering limits right-left
Thanks Johno and Fred.
I verified that the spindles are hitting the LCA mounted stops on both sides.
I am getting 4 full turns of the steering wheel and center is pretty close to exactly 2 each way after I adjusted the tie rod sleeves some more.
Should be good to go now.

Steering limits right-left
My 64 turns tighter to the left than the right. I spent some time adjusting tie rods (evenly to keep same toe adjustment). Seems like I am getting more right turn angle now, as far as I could check in the garage. But here are my questions: Is this normal for the mid-60's Ford/Mercurys? This is a man...

Re: Shelby drop
I also did the down 1 inch and back 1/8 inch. Can't tell if it helped anything, but then I did it with a full suspension rebuild. So it was so bad beforehand it's hard to compare.

Re: Gas gage reading when ignition is off
Thanks Pop. It's not a big deal for sure but I figure it's draining the battery slowly so I don't it going on forever.
I always disconnect and put the trickle charger on.
Stay healthy.

Re: Gas gage reading when ignition is off
Did I change anything?
Well, yeah, I did get my Toploader swapped in with way more mods than I ever anticipated having to make. Nothing to do with gages although I did put in the new Speedo cable.
Problem is I can't remember if it was doing that before.

Gas gage reading when ignition is off
Should my gas gauge be reading even when the ignition is off? I just fired up the Comet after her long winter sleep and noticed that after I shut her off, the gas gauge still showed the same reading. Went to zero/empty after I disconnected the battery and put her back on the trickle charger. I hope ...

Re: 65 speedometer routine with 4 speed top loader
Thanks. that makes sense.
The cable and sheath are brand new reassembled. I figure they must be lubricated out of the box. Should I add graphite anyway even though it's new?

Ok, problem is I'm going from the short cable 3 speed so I don't what the T10 routing looks like.barrys65cyclone wrote:same as the t-10 4spd .
