Thanks for the tips ,guys. Got it off using a 3" cutoff wheel and cut a relief slot in the arm ,not hitting the steering box shaft. then drove a small chisel into slot. next I used a rented (auto zone) puller and it came off. I think this pitman arm had never been removed. Hope this helps others wit...

Thanks Fred, third one from Advanced Auto and was afraid I was going to break it. Went to Harbor Freight and bought there HD pitman arm puller and broke the tooth off!!!! this puppy is on there

I'm in the process of converting to 65v8 manual steering, and I can't get the pitman arm off the box. Know heat or pounding on it will damage the box. anyone have any ideas? BTW...good job PoBoyJo65 your post helped a lot .............Ron

Have one that's the same color, med metallic blue in excellent;;ant shape. in process of coming off my car. my AOD is floor shift and replacing collar with a four speed collar...Ron

I've tried to send pix but no go. I am a dinosaur.with this stuff. steering is sloppy. car was originally a 200ci6 w/auto trans. Rev. owner swapped a 302 v8 w/AOD. had power steering but removed. linkage for p/s used with control valve swap made . the part is from Autokrafters. I want to do it right...

Hey fellow Cometiacs ! does anyone know if theres a difference between manual and power steering boxes? how about the Pittman arm and tierods? Car isa 65 404 2dr. originally a 6 w/auto trans. Previous owner(s) converted to a 302V8 w/ AOD. they also replaced front brakes w/ manual disc. any thoughts?...

I have a n AOD in my 65 404. Used Lokar floor shifter and works great.Only had to fab the rear member. Do yourself a favor and use the new Lokar TV cable and brackets. Also go online to Monster Transmissions and watch the videos on how to set up. They used a 64 comet as a demo....Good Luck....Ron

AutoKrafters sell the piece that replaces the control valve. works great, simple swap. been on my 65 for almost a year and no problems. Ron
