Re: Forward gears in automatic trans went away
it shouldn't matter. The modulator tells it when to shift depending on engine vacuum and the governor. If you don't want to get stranded, put the rear up on jack stands and and manually shift it at low RPM. Just don't goose it! Based on what you said earlier, I think something internal is failing/fa...

Re: Forward gears in automatic trans went away
What brandon sez. If it isn't a linkage problem. You can do it! Get the book. There is a couple of moderately tough snap rings to deal with and you will need a clutch spring compressor (I made mine with a 2X6,some all thread and some metal I had laying around).Otherwise,no special tools needed. This...

Re: Forward gears in automatic trans went away
Forward clutch failure... Obviously eliminating the linkage stuff.. If just reverse and no forward at all, that's 99% what it is. And yes, it should be a C4. If you are poking around under it, it should have an aluminum bellhousing that can be detached. Unless it's something on the outside of ...

Re: Weatherstripping clue
You probably did it by now but here's another option. I worked at a Mustang restoration shop many years ago. I installed more weatherstripping than I can remember. We used plain old contact cement. Get it at Home Depot or wherever. I would hang the strip from something like a garage door track then ...

Re: '64 Convertible build... will start of kinda slow...
Start slow, who cares, you're driving a '64 Convertible Comet :) All is right with the world. If you decide to get rid on any unnecessary parts, like those original, slightly discolored but not too pitted scuff plates, just let me know ;) Would you belive the car came with two sets of orignal, slig...

'64 Convertible build... will start of kinda slow...
OK, just more or less starting this as a placeholder... Finally got one of the pics resized so I could post it. What's coming up for it? -entire car needs to be scuffed down, some rust spots fixed and then repainted. Was done 5 years ago and terribly neglected... -I'll stitch up a new interior for i...

Re: 64 bumpers...
Thanks for the info! Have you guys had any of the interior windshield trim done? My pillar covers and header are damn near completely brown with rust. I'd have to see how bad they are after I clean them up to see if they are worth plating. Funny thing is they look exactly the same as the '53 Merc I ...

Hey all, what are the options for bumpers? Not looking to do fiberglass. I'm assuming from my google activity that nobody makes them... If not, what's the sting on re-chrome? I know a lot depends on condition....
Thanks in advance!

the newbie again... '64 Caliente convertible
Hey all, btw, thanks for the warm welcome! I'll figure out posting pics soon. Plus I didn't have a chance to roll the car out for pics due to inclement weather and some cranky horses... anyway... I posted some parts I need in the wanted section. Figure I would alert you guys to it if you don't check...

'64 Caliente parts needed
Hey all! So after going through all the trim that was in the car I just bought I noticed a couple things missing. So: Need (2) sets of the Comet letters on the quarters. These don't need to be 100%, just don't want a bunch of pitted ones though. Need (2) of the front "spears" for the side trim. The ...

Re: new to site and 1st time Comet owner... Today!
Sounds like a GREAT car... in fact it sounds like the best year, make, model, style, engine on a Comet EVER! 3-speed Automatic? :P :P :P HA! Yea, I do agree. I honestly haven't even looked at everything close enough yet but I'm fairly sure that the column shift had three detents, D 2 1? I'm going t...

new to site and 1st time Comet owner... Today!
Hey All, I'm an avid car guy, love everything but mostly a Ford?Merc guy. I just picked up a '64 Convertible today. I need to completely go though it, it was a stalled restoration. Painted/bodywork five years ago but then neglected. Sat outside with a tarp on it. It now has a brand new top but needs...
