What diameter is your tube?
1.750 x .120 DOM steel. The chassis shop uses this same material in all the cages they fabricate.

Re: Root's 64 Cyclone Build

Doesn’t NHRA require a 6 pt minimum for cars faster than 11.50? How does that work for the 4 pt as 11.50 isn’t “slow” these days. I really wanted the 4 pt so I could have seatbelts. I have no interest in swing out or fixed front bars. The wife won’t think it’s cool having to crawl over or around th...

Re: Root's 64 Cyclone Build

The bolts you see on the down tubes are junctions where the tubes join, I did this for ease of installation. They are extremely strong, NHRA approved to mid 8 seconds. I TIG welded everything using a filler rod designed for the type of material they are made from. Jim https://www.summitracing.com/pa...

Re: Root's 64 Cyclone Build

Are those tubes to the trunk bolted on? I feel like I see some Fasteners about a foot behind the main loop. Thanks for the PVC idea - I have never really done this but I really Like your setup. Yes the four points have plates welded to the tubes, the plates are then bolted to 1/2” plates that are w...

Re: Root's 64 Cyclone Build

So I think I am going to put a 4 pt cage in. It will need to be a prefab kit or I will need to measure and have custom bent. With that said, has anyone used any of the off the shelf kits such as Rhodes? Opinions? Experiences? Plan is to sandwich and bolt in. I would also like the trunk bars to foll...

Re: Lou's 65 Comet Build

Looking good Lou! It’s the little details that make a difference. When I was building my Comet I wanted to keep the heater but the rubber hoses interfered with the valve cover. I decided to move the hose tubing location, I soldered copper tubing to the core and moved the holes in the firewall. I use...

Re: Root's 64 Cyclone Build

I just looked at the Speedway link, https://www.speedwaymotors.com/the-toolbox/ford-9-inch-housing-identification-and-axle-measurement/28853 They use the term “flange to flange” with the axles installed in the housing, meaning their measurement is from the axle flange. I measured mine from the housi...

Re: Root's 64 Cyclone Build

Can anyone tell me the pitfalls of using a 56 1/2” flange to flange 9” housing! In my mind I only see it affecting the rim offset. Am I missing anything else? I currently don’t have any rims so getting what I want I would think make this a non-issue Can anyone confirm that the rim mounting surfaces...

I have been following that auction. ‘64 Marauders are my favorite big Mercury’s. This one looks funny with the fender skirts, seems the comments agree with me.

Re: 63 single master bowl upgrade to dual

Hello guys, I would like to do the upgrade without a booster. I'm staying with all drums for now. Wondering if the dual master with the 2 different sized bowels that are meant for disc (I'm assuming) would be OK? I did find a nice youtube video where a 67 Fairlane manual master (2 large bowels) and...

https://i.postimg.cc/FKw3WmfH/Screenshot-20240425-051710-kindlephoto-513064480.png Looks cool but what about header clearance??? Joe That is one big reason my Cyclone is not lower in the front, as it is I have about 3 1/2” of clearance between the ground and my header flanges. I am also running a f...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Jim, Here is a picture of my carb it has a lever on the accelerator pump that comes in contact with the pump. So I don't think the added cap will work?? Not a great picture: https://i.postimg.cc/yxVvkZ9b/IMG-20240329-203422155-HDR-2.jpg You are correct the cap will not fit that carb. I see the link...
