As many here, I am deeply saddened by the news, he will be missed by many. Roy and I had chatted on the phone a few times and chatted on line quite often.Two years ago, a good friend of mine, Mike Olson, attended the Pomona Hot Rod Reunion and tracked Roy down at the track. Unsure of how to introduce himself, he asked Roy if he knew anybody from Minnesota. Cary Sullivan , he replied. Later,when Mike showed me pictures that he took with Roy and some of his racing buddies, I asked "which one is Roy?"
Apparently Roy had made it sound like we were very close friends. Like many here, I have never personally met Roy, but yet, were indeed friends, and I regret not shaking his hand. We will all miss his knowledge and wit. May the baby blue Comet launch nose high into eternity. Thank You Roy, for being our friend. Cary

Roy's family would love it if you can join us for a Celebration of Roy's Life on Saturday November 12th from 12:00-4:00. The event will be held at the Commemorative Air Force Museum at 455 Aviation Drive in Camarillo, CA 93010.

This has morphed into an impromptu car and motorcycle show. All are encouraged to bring their favorite ride to display amongst the planes at the museum. If you are interested in displaying your ride, please arrive at 10:30-11:00 to set up. Don't be shy. We don't care if your car is not perfect. In fact, we don't care if it is still a work in progress. If you knew Roy then you know that if you think that it is cool then Roy thinks that it is cool.

In the spirit of Roy, this will be a come-as-you-are affair. Casual dress in encouraged and positive attitudes are required. There will be food and drinks so don't stop for lunch before coming.

If you cannot attend and you want to send a card or picture of your car to be displayed, please mail them to Doug Pool at 1255 Humboldt Drive, Nipomo, CA 93444

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that you make a donation in Roy's name to any charity that benefits our United States Veterans.

Once again, we all thank you for all of the love and support that has been shown on this and other forums.

I just wanted to share a little about Roy that most of you wouldn't know.
Roy and I joined Comet Central about the same time and I migrated to him cause
we both are long time loyal Comet owners.
He was a drag racer, I was a drag racer etc.

So in 2012 when Marilyn and I went to SoCal for our first winter holiday we went down the 101 highway
so I could pass by Roy's house, a guy with a good arm couldda put a rock through his kitchen window from the 101
on the little crescent he lived on.
The first time I met him I arranged to stop by, when I got there I banged on the door and out walked this big smile
and warm handshake, felt like a big brother right off.
We hung in is garage for a while, the Caliente was under a cover motor out, trans broke from last race and the 2dr wagon was there too.
Marilyn was happy to sit in the truck, she's not much on garages, oil, rubber actually anything with dirt on it,,,lol
made plans to meet at the Famoso Dragstrip march meet. When there got to ride through the pits in the Caliente!


The next year we went down again and this time I parked Marilyn at and RV Park in Malibu and spent a day with Roy.
We went on garage tours, seen a couple a real cool Falcons and a 66-7? 427 Comet, went for lunch at his favorite spot.
I really felt at home with him,,, no we didn't agree on everything but accepted each others views.
back at his house he invited me into his computer/trophy room,, I think he had every publication that had an article on a Comet in it!
There were Comet buttons, toys, pictures and all sorts a stuff,, Cool room,,,, but then I noticed and wish I'd taken a pic of this pic of Roy
running in a foot race, maybe in is 30's and looking like an Arnold,,, WHAT THE HELLL ROY?
The other Roy, a surfer, triathlete, surfed up and down SoCal from Malibu to SanDiego in his younger days.

THe following year we used Sassy to pull our little camper to SoCal and as some of you know we had some trouble, again we went down the 101
the car was acting up and we struggled up to Roy's place.
I was under the car when he got home and it wasn't long before he was under it too, he helped me get parts to make a repair and we went for supper
again at his favorite spot in Camarillo.
That year I got together with RCMIKe and Comethead Joe and we went to a big car show that Roy had his car entered in (forget the name,,,JOE? )



We went and found Roy's car but he wasn't around, we ran into him later, he was escorting some family,,? around we were gonna hook up later but
never did and that was the last time I seen him.
He loved his Family, Country, Friends, Comets and all of us,

Fred that was the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona. And boy was Roy pissed! They put him off into a tight corner and he said it was a royal pain to get in and out and he said NEVER AGAIN!

Roys old place in Camarillo was right up the road from the Air National Guard base where I used to work. I'd pass by to hi as often as I could. I'd ask him 1000 questions and he'd answer them all in due time.

Something he mentioned to me: at one time his Comet was configured as a canyon carver! With a high winding 289 and of course a 4 speed. He said he liked taking it up and down Malibu Canyon road and give the Porsche guys something to see!

Great stories Fred. Kind of the same for me. Met Roy here and a few other forums. So much knowledge in him. I flew down to the March Meet in Bakersfield just to meet him and watch. I did not even know what he looked like but I found the car but no Roy. So I hung around and then he came up to the car and I said who I was. Well talk about a friendly welcome. It was a GREAT time. Met Dale Snoke at the same time. Roy introduced to so many people. Felt like a family member. Stayed all weekend and after that kept in contact by phone.

He came up here to Washington and stayed at my house so I could show him my cars and the we traveled together to Canada for Mega Ford. We talked and talked and of course you came by as well. He really liked it except for breaking his Jerico! He came to Seattle for a Nostalgia race so we got to hang out again for a weekend. He was planning on coming back next year.

When Roy was at my house he saw I had a lot of Bob Glidden stuff in my shop. One day he calls me and asks for my address. A few days later a whole bunch of stuff shows up. He won't even let me pay him for postage.

I wanted to see his new place by Vegas. Last time we talked which was not long ago he was talking about all the stuff he wanted to do. So sad that his life ended so abruptly.

He was a very good friend to many people and I will miss him dearly. I still have so many questions for him. Sad. Brian

I have not been on here a lot lately, but knew there would be a ton of responses to Roy's passing. I have only gotten through a few posts and already have tears in my eyes. (BIG BABY) People at work are asking me what's wrong.... I never met Roy in person, but met him here and have known him well from then on. We spoke multiple times a week on facebook, always commenting on each others posts. We shared views on so many items. He has one of my FAVORITE drag car of all times! I'm really going to miss him and his incredible personality! Godspeed Buddy!!

I only knew Roy through this forum, and only communicated with him directly two or three times, but I've benefited from his knowledge many more times than that as he's responded to others questions. Although he was only about 7 years older than me, I looked to him sort of as a father figure when it came to knowledge and advice about my Comet. As I get deeper into my Comet project, I will miss being able to "Ask Roy". Fortunately, he has left this forum a bank of nearly 6000 posts that are filled with his knowledge and serve as his legacy to us. I'm sure I will be making many visits to this bank in the future. RIP Roy, and thank you.

Dang I am really missing Roy. I just can't get used to him being gone. He was on so many sites on the computer where I go daily. Just feeling bummed as I had something I wanted to share with him today.

I attended Roys memorial car show yesterday. It was a great event.
Roys 2 sons and family are wonderful people and it was a fitting celebration for their father, grandfather, brother and our friend.

Ron made it in his Ranchero- what a great looking truck! I took my 65. There were about 30 cars there. Fords Mercurys and and some other brands as well.
Not sure if any other forum members were there (wish I would have had a Comet Central t-shirt to wear) but there were quite a few folks and it was NOT a somber event. There was food and beer and laughs and a few burnouts. When Roy's son Doug fired up Roys race car in the hangar it was sublime music!!

Yea that's a hint Mike!! I'll second that hint!! Joe If any members were there they would have certainly recognized your comet! That is the first time I have seen Roy's new hood scoop. I hope they keep his comet in the family. Thanks Joe for sharing the pics!!

Glad you got to attend the show! Thanks for the pictures. I hadn't realized that Roy removed the bars and V8 badge from the front fenders along with emblem on the back quarter panel. His car has a nice clean look with that color and badging removed. It's also good to know his cars are staying in the family.

Loman the entire front clip and doors on Roys car are fiberglass. I guesss he didn't want to drill holes to add the weight of the emblems. But he did keep the Caliente trim on the bottom.
I agree it gives the car a clean look.
One thing that always amazed me about his car is how CLEAN it is. And I mean Roy did excellent work. All his mods were tidy and looked professional. Everything looked in place and add to that it was always dirt and oil free! Pretty amazing for a 10 second drag car.

I'm glad I was able to attend and take some pics for you all.
