64 Cyclone carpet, suggestions?

Post by CosmicComets »

We are getting close (by end of winter, hopefully!) to putting one of my son's 64 Cyclone on the road, putting in some dyno-mat, and about to order carpet. We are thinking of a two piece, molded. We will be going over a custom hump to clear the six speed, and will be using the stock console. May need to make some custom cuts and bends. Anyone have any suggestions on brand, style, and supplier? Thanks, Cary

I have had more than one loop pile carpet from ACC that started coming apart immediately, like 200 miles of driving.
66 Cyclone GT; 245/60R15's on 15x8's and 215/70R15's on 15x7 Magnum's.

Hey Ripper, what would be your next choice? I have found a lot of ads, priced from about $120-$200, but if I dig deeper they all appear to be made by ACC. Is there any other Manufacturer? Cary

My 65 Comet 4 speed has an ACC carpet kit and floor mats.
I’ve driven around 10,000 miles with that carpet and it still looks good! I wouldn’t hesitate to buy an ACC kit again.
I bought mine from Dearborn but Rock Auto also sells the kits at a good price https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/mer ... oring,1264

By the way I believe the originals were 80% rayon and 20% nylon. ACCs 80/20 blend is actually “Raylon” that (according to ACC and NPD) is more durable and looks better then the old 80/20 rayon nylon and the 100% nylon.
That’s what I have- the Raylon. So far so good.

Thanks Joe, will probably have to go that route. Perhaps Lil Ripper just forgot to take off the spurs! :D I guess for the price it will be worth a chance. Take care, Cary

I've had my ACC carpets in since Christmas. Drive it every day. Mostly just me on the driver's side. Still looks great. No spurs though, so maybe that'd make a difference ;)

Check out this company https://www.stockinteriors.com/items.as ... ainCatId=1
I just bought and installed a 2 piece molded kit from them. Have o miles on it so I don't know how long it will last. I bought the upgraded plush pile.

Thanks Tom, but after some digging, I believe that they are another dealer for Auto Custom Carpet brand products. Here is one of there ads on e-bay and if you scroll down it says it is ACC brand. I do like the look of the plush cut pile, but ultimately it will be up to the kid! He is leaning towards the Rock Auto price, as we may ruin a set trying to get "over the hump".

I don't know of another vendor. And yes Stock Interiors sells ACC. It seems like everyone does.

Thanks guys, ordered a set of red carpets from Rock Auto, specifically for two door hdtp, buckets, auto trans. Almost ordered for a 4 speed, but they had great pictures that showed the extra bulge in the carpet for the shifter, and remembered our shifter will now be coming through the coin tray on the console. $145 to the door.
