Sixteen hour road trip with my running partner yesterday.
She's still there and I'm getting the itch.
Picked up this crusty rascal. Will disassemble and see what I can salvage during the Winter when I have time. Can anyone besides A/FX Jim identify this one?

'57 Fairlane 500 Skyliner
Big bearing housing, 3.53 gears w/ a peg leg. Going to get a Locker for sure.
There are a couple more where this one came from, if anyone is interested.
Made friends w/ a '57 Ford man. I almost drove to your place to pick this up.

Joe, why don’t you buy that Comet, it seems to be in pretty darn good shape. As far as the rearend, I couldn’t tell you what kind it is, 8”/9”, maybe if I were to see it up close and personal.
I had a buddy in high school (circa 66-67) who build a 57 Ford, he put a GTO engine and four spd in it, ran damn good, always loved to hear those trips kick in.

I would buy the S-22 if I didn't need to remodel the interior of my house. Need to replace all of the flooring and spruce up the kitchen and baths.Caveman49 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 26, 2023 8:42 amJoe, why don’t you buy that Comet, it seems to be in pretty darn good shape. The Skyliner was the first American-made car w/ a retractable steel roof. If you haven't seen one activated, check it out on YouTube. I had a friend, bought one in the late '80s w/ non-functioning roof. He repaired it and sold it for good money. He gave me a demonstration after he got it all working. The 'trunk' lifts up and the roof folds down to produce instant convertible. To handle the addition weight, Ford installed a HD 9" differential, same as the truck.
It's a direct bolt-in for my Comet. Thanks to A/FX Jim for tipping me off to it.
BTW- John has very good vision.

I hear you on remodeling, I just started on our master bathroom myself, never ends I tell ya.
My dad had a used car business in Cleveland Ohio back in the late 50s, I remember him having one of those retractable top 57s, they were different for sure. He also had some of the first Edsels, now they were definitely different.

Cool My running partner's Pop sold cars his entire life. He and his son are car nuts.
