Filter in gearbox?

Post by HarryK »

I have a mercomatic in my 64 caliente. The oil needs to be changed. I wonder if somebody knows if there is a filter inside the gearbox that needs to be changed and where in that case I can get a hold on one. Is the mercomatic the same gearbox as ford cruiseomatic?

Mercomatic, Yes there is a filter. NOT replaceable, just clean the old one with brake cleaner or gas.

IF it's a C4... http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Genuine-For ... 1341110446

If that trans is the same as the 2 speed used in falcons it would appear to have a filter which appears to bolt in so should be replacable.

So obviously replacements are not available. In that case the best you can do is just try to clean it and reinstall.
