1965 Mercurey T 10 Transmission 4 speed

Post by garch65 »

Hey,

I am getting my 1965 Comet Caliente T 10 4 speed transmission rebuilt, I need 2 parts, a 6 bolt wide pattern bell housing and the tail housing as mine are cracked.
I am hoping someone may have a spare one in good condition without cracks or know of where I can find one.

Thanks,
Ken

Just a note- make sure your new bellhousing matches your flywheel.
There are 157 and 164 tooth flywheels. The bellhousing allows the starter so be positioned correctly at the flywheel teeth.
Also, the starter itself is flywheel specific.

I can dig up starter and bellhousing part numbers if you need them.

Good Morning Joe,

Any part information would be helpful. There is an actual part number defining bell housing between a 157 tooth verses the 164? I guess, I will be counting the teeth. I may have found one, but he wants a lot of money for it. Your message may help me figure out if it's a fit. Thank-you,
Great information!

Morning Ken,
Check through this website- about the middle of the page is the bellhousing information you may need.
http://www.mustangtek.com/Bellhousings/ ... sings.html
The most common small block flywheel is the 157 tooth and the aluminum C5DA-6394-A bellhousing. These are very common and I wouldn’t pay more than $150 for it. They are used in Mustangs Falcons Comets and Fairlanes.
Less common is the 164 tooth flywheel and C5AA-6394-B aluminum housing. (Or the C5TA-6394-A cast iron bell housing).
Read through this to be sure you have the right starter http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forums/a ... rs-001.jpg
And this http://www.mustangtek.com/sidebyside/Sm ... lsize.html
The starter motor itself is the same. It’s the cast aluminum snout that locates the gear correctly.
Good hunting!

I figured out what I need, does anyone have a good 157 tooth bell housing C5DA-6394-A for sale? I also need the Tail housing and a 7 tooth metal speedo gear T10H-169C, mine is shot.
Thanks,

Ken
