Shock mount swap?
Shock mount swap?
Does anybody have an idea what the odds are of welding the comet shock lower mount on white shock? Is it just oil reservoir there?

Re: Shock mount swap?
I wouldn't , I don't know the specifics but a local guy had one explode when welding it, and shrapnel went thru his arm. Don't know if it was oil or gas filled. Not a risk I would be willing to take.
Why don't you just modify the existing mount with something like this

Just a generic link, sure there is one that will fit in your rubber bushings just need the same spread as you studs.

Re: Shock mount swap?
Or Maybe weld up something like this that would bolt to shock and to the spring perch

Well a man who cuts , reshapes & welds his spindles & steering column wont be afraid of a little ole shock I'm not as much amazed anymore ,,,I just come to expect it from you Fred .
Re: Shock mount swap?
Looking forward to trying these shocks. They're the same oversll length with firmer bump control. When I did the Shelby drop I also took out a fair amount of antidive by somewhat leveling the upper control arm. Suspension travel should be controlled by springs, shocks and the anti-roll bar not by seizeing the suspension, at least in my book.

Re: Shock mount swap?
Very nice, when you were talking about cutting off and switching/ welding the shock mounts I thought you were going to cut at the base and weld to the shock body. Like they were originally welded, leaving half the eyelet/ring to weld the new mount to is brilliant!!! Wow!

Thanks Lou. Well my original thought was to weld to the shock body but you got me to think maybe not a good idea.
This isnt as clean appearing but will work fine.

Out today for about a hour cruzin the twisty 3A Lake road.
The stiffer bump in these shocks was what the Dr ordered.
Car is more stable on entry with less dive without being harsh at highway cruise.
These shocks were for a early 90s Toyota ForeRunner.

Typical Fred. What something was meant to be used on is just a footnote reference. Now....how can I modify it to work on Sassy?!
