He guys, those Granada top loaders were contracted to the then new Tremec Corp., located in Mexico.

I was going to say this sounded like the "Mexican" blocks, which as I understand are kinda nice.. Like as in location of manufacture..

I had a Granada top loader in my Mustang when I was in high school. I liked it for a daily driver. Had a tall first gear for getting the jump traffic light to traffic light and overdrive to cruise the highway. Of course it was no good at the track and later when I upgraded the power in the motor it blew up. :(

Thanks for all the help - you guys have been great!. I have leared tons over the last two weeks about this swap.

I have made my decision and have moved out on it.

The decision is....

T-5  Found the trans (easy), found the adapter plate (easy) found a clutch cable kit (easy) and found a shop to work the driveshaft and crossmember over for me - you guessed it - easy

Looks like it will cost the same or even less for this approach and I'll be loving that 5th gear.

May very well ditch the Mercury 7.5" rear while I am at it and put in a new rearend... A maverick rear is almost 3 inches shorter and a chevy S-10 rear is a whopping 5" shorter... That would let me get rid of them AWFUL lift shackles  and put sum real meat under there... :P
