Compression Question

Post by Adams »

Hello Pops and All, I've posted this on the Ford Six board, but I wanted to throw this out here...Now that my 200 is installed, I have the old 144 on the stand. When I turn the crank with a wrench, I notice the sound of escaping air (maybe into the crank case). My first thought, of course, is compressed air leaking past the rings. Is it normal to hear this in a motor when you are turning the crank slowly by hand that's not oiling and running, or is it really a sign of massive blow-by? The engine didn't use a drop of oil, and didn't seem to have excessive blow-by when running.
