1965 cyclone non/AFX glass hood
1965 cyclone non/AFX glass hood
I posted some in lounge. will repost here for future refence.
1965 Cyclone non/AFX Hoods were very limted production (around 300) and no one makes reproudctions. they have 2 non functional scoops that are Flat (no recess) at the front of the scoop. with cast plated trim.
1966-67 Cyclone GT Hoods very siamalar still no functional scoops although they did recess the casted trim about 2 inches into the scoop. also the overall shape and size of the hood grew as the comet moved up a size sharing the platform of the fairlane.

And so the project started . Take a 65 metal hood Strip the skin to use the understructure. Take a 66 67 fiberglass strip the skin to bond to the metal structure. Also the nose is shaped diffrent so i casted the 65 nose. I just wet sandind the hood with 600 grit, applied wax heavealy. Then brushed on the resin and mat. rinse and repeat about 5 times.

Re: 1965 cyclone non/AFX glass hood
I cut the nose off the 66-67 hood and grafted the two halves together. Sandblasted the metal frame and sprayed with POR 15. Used 3M smc Fiberglass Two Part Adhesive on all the direct contact areas. Liquid Nails on the wider openings (under scoops). After everthing cured. I added some mat over the bracing in places. And built up all the edges.

Re: 1965 cyclone non/AFX glass hood
Now its just just fitment and setting all the gaps. Should have mentioned earlier.. The 66-67 hood is two inches wider overall. About 2 inches longer (but the curve at the cowl is totaly diffrent). i had traced the 65 frame on the fiberglass skin to get the cut lines. But sevral times on and off the car to get the gaps set and straight. And finish body work as normal. In second primer at the time of this post, So im off to do alot more block sanding. Will post pics after its shiney..

Great work, I think it looks great so far. I always thought those hoods looked similar, now I know just how close they are.

WOW!!!!! Looks freekin awesome. You got some talent! Can you make one for a 64. You probably want to be the only one on the block with one of these, but if you could make these for 64-65's you would probably do very well with them. I would be first in line. Great job. Jim
