new member from Missouri

Post by 6t5404 »

I am new to the forum. I live in north central Missouri. I have been collecting and restoring 60's muscle cars for about 30 years. I currently have a 64 GTO conv. A 66 Cobra replica, a 67 Plymouth Belvedere 1 drag car, a 69 AMX, and working on a 48 Crosley wagon, sitting on a 71 MG Midgit running gear.
I recently bought a 65 Comet 404 that came from the factory with the HI-Po package. It is an all matching numbers car. I am the 3rd owner, and I know the original owner. It has been stored in a garage since 1978 and covered with trash, magazines, parts, and other crap. I have been about 15 years trying to get the owner to sell it, and he finally called and said he was ready to let it go. It was raced for years, but I have managed to get it all back to original condition. It is currently in the paint shop. I need to find an interior vendor that can get original upholstery.

Welcome aboard! :D Hipo would be very unlikely in a 404. there were 225hp cars that had higher compression & 4 bbl carb which may be what you have. Post up some pics!(Just the comet! :lol: )

It is a true HI PO. Special DSO order in Jan 1965 from a local dealer, who remembers the order as the original owner was the parts manager. It has the bolt in shipping brace, heavy duty suspension, larger brakes, blow proof bell housing, top loader, larger drive shaft, narrowed 9" rear end. Everything is dated. I know they only made very few of the 404s, but this is one of them. They were also a couple of 202 HI POs.
Car is in the paint shop but will post some pics when it gets back.
Having trouble finding interior that is correct.

Cool ! :D Keep your eye out for the build sheet, especially in the interior. It is the only way to prove it came with a hipo motor.

about the only ones who have original interiors is ;
