66 Cyclone 390 4 speed Convertible Owner

Hi all.
My name is Len and I hale from Central Illinois. I am a life long Ford/Mercury/Lincoln guy.

Just finished a 4 year, frame off restoration on a 73 Gran Torino Sport Fastback.

As of this Wednesday I will be the proud owner of a 1966 Comet Cyclone Convertible. This will be my first Mercury.

Its a factory, numbers matching 390 car with 4 speed, 3:00 Traction Lock rear, power brakes and steering, and has factory in dash AC which I am assuming is rare for a convertible.

It has a DSO designation of 84 (Home Office Reserve).

I am super curious as to obtaining more information on the 84 DSO.

I was hoping to order a Marti report for this car, but they only go back to 1967 so it is not available.

Will post photos as soon as I get it to my garage and cleaned up.

Looking forward to participating on the forum and learning more about my great new purchase.

Thanks for the welcome all.

I was able to pick up the Cyclone yesterday (Wed) and get it unloaded in my garage.

Will post pics over the weekend.

I have been doing some reading on the 66 Cyclones, and I have a question:

From what I have read, the 390 option was not available in the standard Cyclone, only the Cyclone GT. Is this correct?

Reason I ask is that my car is a standard Cyclone (non GT) but it is an original 390 2v with a 4 speed....

Very nice & very rare. I have a 67 cyclone 390 automatic convertible 2 barrel with the Gt motor. Best of luck while working on it.

Looks great! I have one of those glass washer bottles. back in the day you could get concentrated washer fluid in bottles like that. when you filled up the washer tank with water you added an once or so from the bottle .this fluid also had anti freeze in it so nothing would bust. here is a repro sticker for the bottle;

Wow! Super nice.

And I have one of those bottle's that I scavenged from a car I parted out back in the early 80's. When I restored the Cyclone in 09 I noticed 2 holes in the fender apron. I pulled the bottle and bracket out of my tool box and it screwed right in.

And that is a Caliente grille. I think more than half of the Cyclone's I've seen have the wrong grille. I suppose it is from front end kisses.

When you say it has a Caliente grill, is it just the insert that is different, or the complete grill housing?

Not exactly sure what I am going to do with the Cyclone yet.

Originally it was white with a black top and black/white interior.

Paint is decent, so for now, I am planning to touch it up, wet sand, and buff.

If it needed paint, I would go back to the correct colors, but for now I will drive it and enjoy it.

This is the correct lattice on the Cyclone. I removed the Comet emblem and put the 390 badge in it's place because everyone would ask what engine it is.
