1964 Comet Cyclone

Post by chendrick »

Hello my name is Chad. I have a 1964 Comet Cyclone. My grandfather bought it back in the mid 80's and my dad restored it for him. I have good memories working on it with my dad and grandfather. Fast forward to now, it's in need of another restoration and I would like to go as much to original as possible. Unfortunately my dad won't be able to help me due to medical reasons, but I'm hoping to find any answers to any questions I may have as I get started on the restoration. I am missing some interior parts. That's a little bit about me. The Cyclone was originally black with the trim option of white interior, which my grandfather changed. I'm going to change it back. It's a factory 4spd car. It doesn't have the original 289 or drive train. The po had changed all of that. But he supposedly had the original 289 buy didn't want to sell it.

You should compile a list of needed parts and post it here, also include your location. I have owned my ‘64 Cyclone for almost 50 years and have a supply of extra parts that may be available. I do not have a list of what I have but if you need something I may have it.

I live in Ashland KY, but my Cyclone is at my dad's garage just outside of Huntington West Virginia. I don't have a garage to keep it in. I'm sure it's a long shot, but I would like to find a center console and if possible a better set of headliner bows. The set I have are cracked and I'm missing one of the clips. If I can get them out without further damage to them then I'll get the hardboard headliner from Mac's. If I break them worse I'll probably just do the conversion. Those are really the things I would like help finding if possible lol. Thank all of you for welcoming me to the group.

Chad;
In 1964, the 289 would have had a 5 bolt bell housing. In 65 they changed to the standard 6 bolt that all other small blocks such as the 302 and 351W had. I have a 65 Comet Caliente that was factory 289 and 4 speed. It now sports a 331 stroker and a T5 5 speed transmission. The guys on here are a lot of help.
