hey everyone

Post by comet404 »

I am new to rthis site, I have checked out some of the forums, I am starting a build on a 64 404, I wanted to go with a 351 W and was wondering if it will fit, it looks like it may be tight, the orginal 260 is 22 inches wide and the 351 is 25 inches wide, what if any engine compartment mods are needed.
Any help would be appericiated

comet404;welcome to the site. The 351W install is covered on here many times. It will fit without any mods but it will be tight, you can notch the shock towers from about 1 1/2" above the upper A-arms for more room, you can buy a kit from Crites Restorations,or install a different front suspension system.I have done one each of the first three,on the first two we used custom headers the Crites kit we used their swap headers. Will a 351 m fit a 63 ..?

I have a blow through turbo set up that was on an f 250 ...

Might be a lot of poundage even if it fits ...

I have a 351 in my 63 drag car. It's not the easiest thing to work on, but it's in there! Headers are a pain in the you know what. And, changing plugs takes damn near an hour with a mixture of tools. I do still have the shock towers in mine though, with some modifications for header clearance. Are you planning on doing a 351 in a 63? Mark

Right now I am in the process of starting the 144 6 . If it runs purrfect then I have to make decisions...

I have the turbo so I could fill a 351m up, With light boost it should move a 63 pretty well...
