Re: Slowly restoring my 66 Comet Caliente

Ya I'm not concerned at all with what my buddies think. If it takes a few years to get it on the road I'm ok with that. Short summers up here in Winnipeg don't help much with time to work on it. And yes Joe it was a VERY pretty car when I took it apart.

I've always had a thing for the Comet and Fairlane body styles. Working one day in 1998 and saw the front end of it from 2 blocks away. At the EXACT second I drove by the car the second owner put the for sale sign on the windshield. I took it as a sign and bought it an hour later. Called up a good friend of mine and told him I'm selling my 68 Nova to fund my restoration on the Comet and he was like "Whoa! whoa! You need to take a minute and think this over!" Hahaha! Two weeks later I sold my Nova :D

After I sold the Nova, and being Mr. Responsibility, alot of the money went toward my mortgage and house stuff. Then 15 years goes by in a blink and here I am. Oh well it'll get done eventually

I live and breath blue oval but that 68 was the last chevy II "Deuce" and the first year of the new body design. Your friend will make the bowtie audience jealous.

Finished up the wiper motor and hood latch mechanism the other morning. My kids took an interest in tightening a few bolts on the wiper motor so maybe I can put the little stinkers to work haha! :D

All these pieces were sent out for powder coating. Wish I could afford to powder coat everything but spray bombs and my time are a bit cheaper.

BACK in the 90's when I redone my comet,I bead blasted everything as you did,I found out as long as the parts were clean, they turned out better if I did not use any primer 1st,I just used some rattle can paint we had in the paint shop at the railroad(gloss black),painted right on raw metal, after all these years it still is good,,I wire brushed all top fender bolts brake lines under the hood, then before motor was put back in,climbed in there and put a coat or 2 of clear finger nail polish on all, after many washings under hood ,you have to renew the finger nail polish...but it sure does look good for awhile.pop
