1961 Falcon "next project"
Re: 1961 Falcon "next project"
that things going to be pretty mean, have you thought about putting a cage in it.it scares me these days to run a small car with a stout engine without some extra safety.

It had Lakewood's on it. I haven't put them back on. I've found that strapping the front end of each leaf usually eliminates wheel hop, (I still don't have that much bite). The new spring's have aided in weight transfer but it still spin's too easily. I'm hoping to squeeze a 15x8 235/60R15 under it. Right now it has 15x7 225/60R15's. I'm also moving the battery to the trunk.
The longer trunk area of the Comet's surely help's with traction. My 62 Comet had a lot more bite than this little bob tail. It's a huge contrast between it and my Cyclone. My Cyclone just bite's hard and goes.

Yeah, I'm struggling with Traction Masters vs. just clamping the fronts of the leaf springs. TM's look great but $170 bucks vs. $10 bucks worth of flat stock has me waffling.

Re: 1961 Falcon "next project"
Hi gang, I need a picture of a 61-63 radiator support looking down from the top of the support on the engine compartment side (without the radiator in). I started peeling the thing apart and noticed that the guy before me hacked the lower support out to fit an aluminum radiator in; sigh. I need to see what structure was there so I'll know what to rebuild. You know, they made V8 car's, I have no idea why he wouldn't use an OE fit radiator. Did the support change in 63 to allow a V8 radiator? I remember just putting a Rustang V8 radiator in my 62 Comet.

After some beer thinkin, I suppose I will box in the void's to regain strength.
Every time I think I will leave his work alone on a given part of the car, I find something I want to do differently.
And in another direction my neighbor up the street does something I want to adopt. He restores the part's and pieces as he disassembles them so it is all done when it's time to put it back together. I am going to try and make myself do that. Today would be the hand brake assembly.

Yea that guy is like Me & Fred. Fred I like a cut off wheel & a body saw better than a sawz-all ! I cut mine out for a bigger rad. The stock rad is too dinky for me. You wont find a rad that dinky on any new cars with a v8.

Yea we have quite a few members! Comethead is a new one, & is kinda feelin bad for cuttin up a car, but a few trips around the racetrack & he'll get over it!Lip Ripper wrote:Comet Chopper Club.
Too bad the 64- 65 rad supports are different, I have the center section of a 65 just sitting here.(hoarder's club) I had thought of making a removable one with it but didnt.

Re: 1961 Falcon "next project"
Project update. Me knee is healing so I've been back at the 61. The previous owner put a new autometer cluster in. As I started to disassemble the car I tried to figure out his wiring method. Yeah right; he used either green or yellow wire and I swear some of it was a 120V electrical cord split in half. I got the wire cutter's out and didn't look back. Next was the engine compartment. He refreshed the 63k mile engine with new gasket's, an oil pump and a timing chain before installing. I was going to leave it but I've found so many lose bolt's I'm pulling and going through everything he did including the inside.
If it weren't for setback's it would be too easy.
Happy New Year!

Stacey - Must have missed it...what happened to your knee?? If you wanna feel better about the '61 wiring, I could post some before pics of some of the stuff I've fixed! Needs a complete re-do but it's gonna have to wait!

Re: 1961 Falcon "next project"
I've had trouble with my knee for 3 year's. Two different surgeon's said I didn't need a new knee but I kept having problem's off and on. I finally found a tissue specialist who gave me a PRP injection. It is not recognized buy the FDA or insurance but the stem cell procedure is working. They've been doing this with great success for 12 year's now. They take your blood, separate the healing properties and inject that concentrated blood into the injury. The needle hurt so that I'm sure people in the waiting room heard my response. $700 a shot; thankfully one is going to do it.

They'd rather replace the knee for 20x the cost and 20x the pain! Sounds like you found a better way - right on!!
