Old Big Sister

Here's a car I always dreamed of owning - https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1962- ... ie-500-27/

My first car was '62 Galaxie w/ a wimpy 223 and three on the column. When I found out about this model later, my heart started pounding.

Looking back on all of it, my '63 Comet is really a mix of stylings from this, my fave '65 Cyclone and the car we owned when I was a kid, a '57 Custom 300. This would be the front view, Cyclone the middle, 300 the rear wing view. Three-for-one sale that captures many fond memories :)

If it were just one year older and a starliner then I would be all in. But not a fan of that formal roof line.

'61 Starliner w/ HP 390 6-V would be very cool. Have you ever seen one w/ a T-10?
I don't believe I have but believe they were available starting in '61.

I have seen them with 4 speeds, but I do not know if they were originally 4 speeds.

I had to hunt this down and post it- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJYuQEJ0e30

A Starliner really needs a Cammer to move. I pulled out a tape to measure the interior of my Comet; 51" wide on front bench. My Lincoln MKC is 48". The Starliner is very wide and heavy. I don't think modern parking lots would accommodate a Galaxie of any year. :(

I remember seeing John Vermessh’s cammer powered ‘61 Starliner, it was cool but what was cooler is when he was towing his cammer powered ski boat behind it. I also have seen a few Cammers when I visited Art Chrisman, he had a reputation for building some potent 427’s.

Vermessh is in my car club. His wife has a super cool old school camper that is themed in "I love Lucy" stuff. She has brought it to our shows a few times. Also John is who made the original cross over headers from when I first put the cleveland in my Cyclone. His orange starliner is one of my earliest influences in the car hobby.

His wifes camper, of course pulled around by a badass wagon.

How cool is that! Glad to hear he is still around and playing with cars. I remember he was involved with the factory and the performance offerings, and of course Total Performance his personal company.

No wonder you have an affinity for that year and model!
My memories go back to keeping my right foot planted to the floor w/ a 223
That is a beautiful wagon. :D

Wayne Carini has a nice ‘61

That's the ticket, Jim! 👍

Top dog in '61. 6V induction w/ a T-10. Mr. Carini scoffs it off a bit but this was Ford NASCAR for the year w/ 4V induction. Did very well w/ the roofline. The '62, not as aerodynamic and lost ground a bit w/ the larger 406 but held it's on in the quarter-mile runs.

Thanks for posting this one.
