Re: Drag strip tomorrow!
I'm not any good at this but just to get this show started I'll say 13:45
Re: Drag strip tomorrow!
I ain't either but it's just for fun.
Re: Drag strip tomorrow!
Well.... I am going to say 14.23 because of the heat, my holley 4160 isn't the best carb combo, and my tires are only 205s. Well I have also never staged at tree before either. Lol
Re: Drag strip tomorrow!
I also don't want set my standard to high for disappointment. I rebuilt the motor and trans with goal of running a 13 but...
Re: Drag strip tomorrow!
I agree with Johno. Mine is estimated to run 12.85's in the quarter. I know you'll have fun, Pugs.

Re: Drag strip tomorrow!
Well bad news. My first pass ever was the only one that the car even made it down the track all the way. Lol I missed 2nd gear and let off the throttle before the finish. I ran 14.6. After that my car would fall on its face in 3rd. Those were all 15-17 second passes at 60 miles an hour. I guess my back barrels haven't been opening and didn't really notice because I hadn't really ripped passed 2nd.
It's a holley 4150 600cfm. Going to put a new diaphragm in and go back in a couple weeks.

Re: Drag strip tomorrow!
Definitely got easy 13.x potential. 600DP's can be had pretty cheap since most folks go 650cfm. Give Edelbrock a call or nose around the Inet and try to find flow numbers on the intake. Methinks the current intake and carb are gonna hold it back a mite. The rest is hooking up and driving!!
My favorite on mild 302's is the Weiand 7515...it's a small single plane and has worked well on a few different 289/ 302's over the years. The newer Street Warrior has a good rep too - might bump up to 650cfm carb if using the dual plane!!
Good luck with it man!!

Re: Drag strip tomorrow!
As hot as it was,and if you have a mechanical fuel pump, the suction of the pump causes a slight vacuum in the fuel line to the tank and the fuel vaporizes.Odds are you simply ran out of gas. An electric pump by the tank, pressure properly regulated, would cure that problem.Matty wrote:Well bad news. My first pass ever was the only one that the car even made it down the track all the way. Thanks for the input. This a 600s single. I would like to upgrade soon.Rocket989 wrote:Definitely got easy 13.x potential. 600DP's can be had pretty cheap since most folks go 650cfm. Re: Drag strip tomorrow!
Yes I thought maybe the fuel pump also. It's a electric carter 4psi that up front. I might switch it to the rear. Re: Drag strip tomorrow!
I'd estimate your power around the 300-330 rwhp range, with good tires (DRs or slicks) on a car as light as these I'd say you'd be close to being in the 12s most likely.

Re: Drag strip tomorrow!
Well we are going to try again a second time this evening. I don't have good tires but we are going to try to feather it in to the 13s tonight. I ran a 14.6 spinning, missed 2nd, and still managed 95 mph trap speed, so I think we can get it if the car doesn't give me issues again.-Rudy- wrote:I'd estimate your power around the 300-330 rwhp range, with good tires (DRs or slicks) on a car as light as these I'd say you'd be close to being in the 12s most likely.
Re: Drag strip tomorrow!
I moved the fuel pump to the rear with a 100 micron prefilter. Left the main filter up front, put the white spring in my 4160 and a different pv also. Seems to run a lot better and isn't starving for fuel. Wish me luck!
