FiTech EFI installed on Cosmic

Postby CosmicComets » Fri Jul 08, 2016 7:12 am

Just completing the install of a FiTech Go EFI 4 on my 351W. Hoping to eliminate some of the problems associated with drivability and fuel consumption of a big Holley double pumper. Goal is to improve on cold starts, warm starts, and rough idle, flooding, no choke, etc. I had recently swapped rear gear set to 3:25s, and with 28" tires driving with a very light foot recorded 8.3 mpg on a 450 mile road trip.
I went with the Fitech after reading a ton of reviews (and of course the pricing was a big factor), placed an order and received the kit after about 5 weeks of back order status. I elected to not go with the Fuel Command Center that they offer, as the engine compartment is crowded enough already. So instead went with an Aeromotive Stealth 340 pump installed in the stock gas tank. Install of the Stealth pump was rather simple, however I had to shorten up the assembly 1/4" to fit inside the tank even though specs said it should have fit fine. There are now two 6AN lines running from EFI to gas tank, added a return. also added a vent line with a roll-over valve.
I won't be using the timing control feature at this time, as the distributor will need to be indexed and the advance locked out. Keeping that option open, just a slight reroute of some wires.
I have a couple hours left of hooking up the remaining hardware, plumbing, wiring connections, and a lot more reading and you-tubing. I'll let y'all know how it goes!

Take care, Cary

You should like it. I like my fast EZEFI on my 78 F350 with a 460. It helped starting and drive ability.

Got Cosmic up and running (with a bit of set up help from Fitech hotline) after some "learning issues". It sure sounded smooth, snappy, and happy. :D Couldn't road test yet due to rain, but i will today. Supposedly the more it runs, the smarter it will get.
The EFI will control the fuel pump, turns out I didn't need the buck-twenty wiring harness from Aeromotive. The ECU has its own relay that will hook up directly to the fuel pump to control pump speed on a demand basis. Hit the key, pump turns on, injectors prime, then pump turns off waiting for an RPM signal. No external pressure regulator needed, injectors will always get 58# of pressure.
Total damage to the wallet was just under $1500, that included the EFI kit, Stealth pump with wiring harness, one more run of braided 6AN line to tank, a couple more AN fittings, and a 3 1/4" hole saw for the pump install.
Fred, fuel pump pics are on my phone, might have to call FiTech helpline again to see if they can help me post them. I have my phone plugged into this laptop, but can't find it. PM me an email, or phone # and I will send direct.
Take care, Cary

Are you going to drive it down to St Paul for Street Machine Nats July 15-17?

No Pro, we are going to the FCA Falcon Nationals this year in Wisconsin Dells, a three day show with swap meet. In conjunction with the FCA meet, there is an all Comet show on Friday hosted by Comet East, an all Ford show on Saturday hosted by Northland Falcon and Comet Club with Comet being the featured vehicle. This will probably be the only FCA Nationals that will have Comets at it! Comet East Club is making the trip with a bunch of cars, all told we are expecting 30+. Back to St. Paul next summer. If you aren't preregistered at Street Machine Nats, HEAD EAST! Cary

Yes they are, that is the host hotel fo all the weekend festivities. There are a lot of hotels in the area though, some maybe a better deal if you could,t get a room there with the show rate. there are over 275 Falcons preregistered as of last week. No pre registration required though for any of the shows. Refer to the heading SHOW SCHEDULE in COMET LOUNGE for more on that subject.
Back to the EFI, put about 60 miles on it between rain storms, runs clean all through the RPM range, pulls strong and haven't checked yet if i'm even getting WOT. (wide open throttle) Still need to calibrate the cold start initial fuel suirt, but you only get one shot at that per day!

I didn't have any cold start settings on my ez efi . In fact I was putting the lock set into the ign Switch and bumped the start and the engine was running. My 460 never started like that cold with a carb

Rocket, it sure cleaned up the whole RPM range,I had a big sputter at 2000-2300 or so at partial throttle with the Holley, right at in-town cruising speeds. There was a factory rebate early this spring for $100, so EFI kit was $895, or about half the competitors pricesat the time. I see just recently Holley was forced to come out with the new Sniper EFI, also under a thousand bucks, but I haven't read any reviews on it. So far, so good. Hopefully I will get to put some miles on this weekend with members from Comet East at the All Ford Show in Wisconsin.
