Dipstick

Post by Rocket989 »

Can I get a favor? Anybody that has a timing cover mounted dipstick...can you measure it for me? From the little cup part that fits over the tube to the end would be great.

I’ve got a later stick I wanna use and thought I had at least one early one in the parts pile to compare...but it’s doing a good job hiding! :lol:

I think you have a 5.0/302 right? I'll measure my 302 later. here is Groovers 260;

Uh-uh....289 w/ 260 timing cover & stock depth (allegedly) Canton pan. Thx for the Groover link!

I measured mine & it is 20 1/2'' total or 20 & 1/4 up to the bottom of the little bell.but my tube is probably shorter too. but it is a chrome aftermarket setup on a mid 70's timing cover. I think the best way if you have a 5qt pan is to put 5qts in & see where it hits. If it hits too low on your dipstick with the known right amount in then you could cut the tube with a mini tubing cutter.
