When I got my 63 Comet last year it didn't have a timing pointer on the 302 engine. I got one over the winter & installed it.
Question: Do I need to find TDC to make sure the zero mark is right on TDC. I checked the timing yesterday and it is at 32* at 2500 RPM.
My thinking is that timing at a certain degree is a reference to start with and final timing is based on road test and plug reading.
Would like opinions from the experts (which I am not)

replacement timing pointer advice
Re: replacement timing pointer advice
I would!! What balancer are you using? For a stock unit a timing tape is great. Rotate clockwise til piston is at top, then go other way and do the same. Make a mark each time, then a mark right in the middle.
Re: replacement timing pointer advice
I got a pointer with a built in timing light. I used it one time & forgot about it. ever now & then I'll see it & think ''oh yea I forgot about you''
Re: replacement timing pointer advice
Not sure what balancer I have. It looks stock. I will check TDC and add the timing tape if it is off
