Loose column gear selector

Post by Bluecollar comet »

Hello i could use some advice on this fix. My 62 comet column shift has a lot of play from wear. The reverse lights come on for only a moment then go out. Car goes into gear fine but have to hold the selector "up" in order to start it up. Installed new ignition switch and neutral safety switch seems fine. If the bushings in the selector need changing how involved is that? Thanks in advance. B

While installing the turn signal return piece on my 65 in the column I noticed that there is a pin that holds the shifter arm to the column. Mine is sloppy also. I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet but when i do I will start by replacing that pin.

Replace your shift collar and adjust the neutral safety switch on the column.
