63 Wiper Switch

Post by junkmurray »

Haven't seen any posts on this so looking for any guidance.

I tried turning on my wipers the other day and nothing happened (and yes, they've worked previously). Took a look under the dash and noticed that the wiper knob wasn't attached to anything. Checked around for unattached and lonely wires and found one. See (3) below, but I think it used to be attached to the wiper switch or is part of the wiper switch but no clue since I've never worked on one before.

1. Do you need to remove the wiper knob / bezel to replace the wiper switch?
2. Do you really need a special tool (that I've seen for sale) to remove the wiper knob / bezel?
3. I've attached two pictures. Picture 2a2 (with the prongs) was what was plugged into the wire that I think goes to the wiper motor. Picture 1a1 is the side that was I think attached to the wiper knob...but no idea if that's possible. Seems to me that something is broken since I was expecting to see a metal post that attached to the wiper knob. Of course with the knob / bezel still attached to the dash I haven't been able to fully take a look-see.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
