Trim Moulding Clips

Post by 62Cometman »

Hi folks, I decided to take off the rear trim for a sand and repaint of the fin tips on my 62 comet. The issue being that the retaining clips pretty much all were rusted to hell and stripped and are non reuseable i need 2 different ones i need the correct clips like to retain the trim moulding on the trunk lid and the rear fin pieces that i believe could be this part

https://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_truc ... tripe.html

but not 100% sure if that is the right one as there are soooo many different sizes for that style of retainer, second one is the c-style clip with a stud that holds the back panel that sits around the taillight and gas cap those i cannot find anywhere if anyone knows a parts store or anything that would carry them or a place i could walk into a get as id like to not wait for a week to get them please let me know

You may not be able to find them locally because older vehicles used different fasteners compared to new vehicles.
Try these:

Which ones do you need? I can probably help get you some part numbers.

Here are a few places I've used:

https://mrgusa.com/

Two things I learned when I redid all the moulding - (1) better to have detailed pictures and measurements and have a great helper on the phone, OR visit in person to pick...or you'll end up with slightly different clips, and (2) sometimes substituting works just as well, e.g., modern nut on the retaining clip, or replacing certain retaining "clips" with bolts and nuts.

Kind regards.
