For the longest time I've had my eye on an old car in my neighbors yard. Well i'm sorry to say the ol' man died a few months ago and the family wants to give me the car, all i have to do is get it out of the yard before they sell the house. Here is what I know about it:
Its a 1963 fairlane 2 door
The car is complete with all scripts and chrome inside and out
No broken or chipped glass
The interior is in ok shape but will need to be replaced
There are a few rust issues on the fenders and window frames
The car has a V8 motor, but I dont know if its a 221,or 260, reasonably sure its not a 289
The car has been modified from 3 on the tree to 4 on the floor
The car runs with no weird noise or smoke, maybe rebuilt engine??
It hasnt been registered since 1997
My question (s) are
is this car worth getting to restore or sell?
are parts available for this car.
my son wants to make this into a race car.....should we??
thanks, i'll probably have more questions later

Re: Whats it worth?
Larry, I have a 64 Fairlane Sports Coupe as well as a few Comets. I believe the fist HIPO engines went into a 63 Fairlane's. You can get used parts on ebay You can get fiberglass fenders, doors. hoods, trunk lids and bumpers from Crites. New interiors from Dearborn Classics. 63 is a cool car. Is it a sedan or coupe. If in runs, drives and it's free you scored. I would say thank you and drive it home. There are some drag racers on here that can lead you in the right direction Roy, Mark to name a couple. I also belong to The Fairlane Club of America. Great site and great peple on there as well. Post up some pics. Jim
It's like a Falcon only cooler!

Snag it! I think 63 Fairlanes are cool! I was actually looking at some parts at Carlisle this year, and there is actually quite a bit of stuff out there yet. That would make a cool race car also. Mark

Re: Whats it worth?
I think everyone is in agreement, GRAB IT! It would be a cool car.
There was an original '63 HiPo at the Columbus Swap Meet last November. I don't remember what they wanted for it but it was a nice car and the price seemed fair for what it was. I didn't write down the phone number and have regretted it ever since.

Re: Whats it worth?
Put me in with the grab it gang. A 63 fairlane was the first car i ever 'hot rodded'. Im bettin it's a 260 V8 - cool lil motors!
67 Comet
No power steering, 4-wheel drum brakes, 5 gears 'n' 400 + horsepower...
...hell yea it's fun
Re: Whats it worth?
By all means grab it and if you cant store it I can help you out.
I would lean towrds keeping it together as is and fixin it as you go. It sounds intact, there are enough gutted carcasses out there to build reace cars out of but all the little screws and trim pieces are a nightmare to find to put one back together. They are great little drivers and I would say if it doesn't tickle your fancy as is sell it to someone who woudl appreciate it for what it is (I don't mean that like it reads). Complete cars are harder and harder to find that haven't been molested, that is my mind is some/most of the value of this car. I can live with the 4 speed conversion, retain all the 3 speed parts if they are there in the case that you or a subsequent owner wants to put it back.

There's nothing like the sound of a pushrod V8 singing at the top of her lung's.
