63 coupe

Post by rjones35 »

So I'm new to world of comets! Bought my first one last week. Its got a 390/c-6 that the guy I bought it from put in. He cut holes on the shock towers and made his own mounts. What he did works, but its not right. I'm thinking of the crites kit for it to make it right. I'm not sure, does that kit come with springs too? Sounds like it does but the picture on their site doesn't show em. A friend of mine thinks I should just do away with the stock front end and go with struts and a rack either aftermarket or modifying a crown vic front end. Any thoughts on any of this? If the crites kit does the trick, the money part sounds good to me. 500.00 for that with mounts, replace whtever suspension and steering stuff that needs replaced and call it good??

Their kits do not come with springs. I have had many 63's over the years, and i can't imagine a FE in there without removing the towers completly. I have a windsor in my drag car with the towers notched out. It's not too bad, but the more room you can make the better. What about Exhaust? Mark

It really doesnt fit too bad. He used stock manifolds. I saw crites listed headers for it. I don't see how those would fit at all.

This is the strut kit I plan to use. It does away with the upper control arm which allows you to trim more of your shock tower off. stock motor mounts, swaybar & oilpan are used with it. You can email them & they will send instructions so you can see exactly whats involved.

you will have to use 15'' or bigger wheels.

So I'm kinda on the fence. Is it worth the 5-600.00 I would spend on the crites kit? The engine is already in. I do need to patch the cutouts in the shocktowers, and the manifolds are pretty much on the towers where the control arms attach. It probably will need new springs, which the kit does come with. Kit is 400.00, frame mounts are 100.00, coil spring swivels are 70.00. Im not 100% sure what those are. Motor mounts aree another 50.00. So probably closer to 700.00ish. Can I just not move tge front suspension and plate up the holes, or would that be cheesy and wrong??
