65 Cylcone Hoods

Post by The Transplanter »

I know I have no chance finding an original Cyclone fibreglass hood, and that most people have just used the alternative design from Crites!

I have now seen that VFN Fibreglass are selling the same hood as fitted to the Craftsman 65, which looks more like the original Cyclone hood but more agressive, which I quite like the look of

Does anyone have any experience with these hoods? I contacted the company and they have 6-7wk lead time, so would be good to get some feedback before I order one :)

Pic for interest

Have you seen the proto type repops ? I have one. it has a bottom like the afx type that crites sells, with a snorkel that can be opened up & functional.

the one on the craftsman car is kinda busy, I think it would be too much on a streetcar for my taste but looks great on a race car!

It is typical of fiberglass. it will need work. Guy who painted mine said it was worse than he first thought. I did quite a bit of work on the bottom to make it look better. it still isn't perfect but good enough for my ole driver.

I dont know about the springs, I didn't use any & the inserts we're kind of expensive so I'm making my own. mine still look a little thick, I want to machine them to be a little thinner.

Thanks guys

It would make more sense to go for the repop as opposed to the race hood

So the original hoods had the chrome trim around the vents then? They are expensive from the seller, so will look into making my own.

Joe, would you have a close up picture of the chrome trim on yours that you could share?

Yes I do. Check out my thread for pics of the trim pieces and how they align in the hood http://www.cometcentral.com/forum/viewt ... &start=120

Further down my thread there are pics of the hood assembled and on my car.
