wheel size

Post by 6t5404 »

I have a 65 Comet 404 with 289 HiPo, I am wanting to put larger tires and wheels on the rear. I am going with steel (stock looking) wheels. What is the max size of 14 & 15 inch rims (what offset), and tires for each that can fit without any modifications? I like the look of the Sole Survivor Comet but not sure what those are and if he had to do any mods to get them to fit.

It varies but typically a 7" rim with 4" of back spacing and a 225 on the rear. Front...same width and BS but with 14's and 15's you have to have watch UCA clearance. A 205-215 tire for the front and check fender clearance turned all the way, both ways!! 26-26.5" tall tire is about max.

You can get a tape measure and use what's on it now to get pretty close.
'cause Johno says you gotta have a sig pic! :)

& if your front is low it will have more chance to rub than if it is raised slightly, as with new coils.

The link below is to a thread that deals with what you're asking about, including my own tire/wheel saga. It contains tips on taking measurements and links to various websites for reference. See if it helps.

thanks to all who responded. that is a lot to process.
I just got it back from the paint shop, so will try to post some pics as I progress with the build. The paint work turned out fantastic.

You should start a build thread to share the progress of your project. If you've got pics of what you've already done, we'd love to see them, and also your progress going forward. It's a good way to chronicle your project for you, and a source of inspiration and information for the rest of us.
