shift socket/collar for 1965 Comet automatic

Post by 65CometWagon »

looking for an original style shift socket/collar or whatever you call them preferably in Palomino.
I guess you can buy an reproduction one from many different places with "This is a reproduction part and is not identical to the original as the arrow indicator is a plastic glue-in unit instead of being an integral part of the casting"

Does anybody know the different?
Thanks,
Ed

Comets had a gear indicator light on the collar. It was optional on the Falcon. The collar with the light is not reproduced.
If the part where the shift handle moves on the collar is broken out it can be repaired.
There’s a website out there of the shop that repairs them.

I’ll dig around the net tomorrow. I seem to remember it was in Maine somewhere.

I found an old post of mine with the link. The place that repaired the collars was called MercuryCometParts.com. It no longer exists. Not sure what happened to them.
I recall they would remove the broken pot metal boss where the shift handle sets and weld in a steel boss. It looked real nice. Too bad they’re gone.
