Throttle linkage

Post by postie »

I was just wondering if anyone can help with a question in regards to the throttle linkage on my 1964 with auto trans. If you can see in the picture the linkage is attached to the firewall with a small bracket. It also looks like a tack weld to the firewall. On mine it has broken and I have significant play in the linkage. There is also a hole where the weld was attached to the firewall. I am just wondering if this weld was done by the factory as extra bracing or was added by some previous owner. I am in the process of removing and having my steering box rebuilt. The exhaust manifold needed to be removed and in doing so I noticed the engine mount was broken. I have been told that because of the extra torque this puts on the throttle linkage it is not uncommon for it to do damage to that bracket attaching it to the firewall.

No that weld is not factory. someone else did that. it is made to be removed by the 3 screws. you might tack it in the proper angle then remove it & weld the crap out of it. maybe both sides if possible.

Thanks for the info. Some previous owner had put a hi-rise intake manifold on which I am in the process of replacing. The linkage is defiantly going to need some adjusting.

Let's hope that's a typo, and not the way it's going to act.

Good catch. That's what it was like getting the steering box out!
