'64 Cyclone Steering Wheel

Post by Mvannote »

Does anybody know if there's an interchange part that can be used for a 1964 Cyclone? I'm having difficulties finding an original steering wheel and am curious if there's anything else, year and mkdel that will interchange with it. Thanks

You can use a Scott drake mustang wheel. Just make sure you get the right one. There are two styles. 1 for generator cars and one for alternator cars. The locking slots for the horn center are clocked differently between the two so you need to know what your car originally was.

I bought this one from NPD a few years ago. They also make cheap and expensive ones. The expensive ones obviously are nicer quality (painted, etc). You can get them in a myriad of colors.

Thanks Rootsy.
I will be converting my '64 from generator to alternator and wanted to put an original style steering wheel back in the car and use a relay for the horn system. Would I buy the alternator version to use with the relay? Also, what do the steering include? Do I still need to buy the tum signal switch/etc?

Your '64 has a relay. The one on my '63 is mounted on radiator support on driver side above the horn.
I'm running one-wire alternator w/ hot wire running to the relay from the hot side of the solenoid.
Using original generator wheel.

You need the generator version so that when you install your center and rotate it to lock into place the spokes align with the wheel spokes.

You get the wheel. You will have to buy the horn contacts and plate, etc etc etc.

I have a ‘65 Cyclone ( faux woodgrain) wheel that I would sell. Its not perfect but it is in decent condition, includes the Cyclone horn ring.
