tweak's 65 project

Post by tweaked »

Hi guys, I started working on my 65 and exicted and happy tonight. I ordered some sheetmetal for the trunk last week and will start welding this week. I put my spare motor and spare C4 in tonight. I'm using them to mock-up the drivetrain. I also installed my headers and they fit. Real happy about the headers as they are for a 66/67 fairlane and I modified them to fit my last car(84 t-bird). It is a big project as the car has rust issues. I have owned the car for about 18 years and started and stop the project many times. Sometimes the size of the project became overwhelming or I was out of money as I was out of work. I installed 2X3 rear frame rails many years ago but never finished the trunk. Welding in the trunk is my first priority.

Roger;good to see you are back after the Comet.Any more pictures? It is easy to get overwhelmed with a major project, just pick one section at a time and stick to it. ROY

Yes more pics will follow. I gave my t-bird to friends son so the comet will be driveable this year.

Wow, big praise to anyone that has fit a wheel tub in a 65 comet. Way to many body lines. I tried to make a super tight fit, old habbit from my days as a steel fabricator. Had the tub in abpout 10 times it is 12:30 so I'll finish tomorrow.

Ya,never done one of these but tubs are a PAIN!
I think we used thin cardboard to get close
then dailed in from there.
By this summer,EH?

I used to do racecar tin work, materials were about 1/3 of what the labor cost!!! Alot of it is trial and error to get the fit right. The rear tubs are the worst,I don't care what kind of car it is!!Just take your time and get it close, body seam sealer is your new best friend! ROY.

I made one template and then made another to fit a little tighter. I have trimmed back to my first template lines. It is real tight with the way I built the rear frame rails. I will have the LH in today and a start on thr RH.

That looks awesome! We need to one day get all our drag Comets together at one event. We could make drag racing Comets seem as common at the drags as late 60's Camaro's or Fox body Mustang's. 8)
