Russ's 64

Post by eckenber »

Kids baseball season is over. Finally got the chance to work on the comet. Within an hour the rain starts. Haven't had rain in lower N.Y.in two weeks. Always something in the way.

Forgive my ignorance but are you Russ? Also, what is the car and what are the plans for it?

Yup, that's me. Have other photos posted on this site. 1964 comet caliente. Plans call for a 393 stroker, c4 with trans brake, 9 inch. and suspension as needed. Will be ordering shock tower kit. Body is worse than I would have hoped. Previous repairs all patched with fiberglass. The more I take apart, the more repairs I will have to make. I'll have more questions on mods when I get their. For now I'm still taking it apart.

Picture of rt side outer fire wall seam -rear of front tire. Their is also a small split on lt side. Hole leads to inside of floor toe board causing rust holes in that area. Anyone else have that problem with open seams in that area?

Russ, forgive me if you know, but careful with the side trim it is fragile when off the car and
good pieces are very hard to find. Mine were all door dinged so I took them to a industral shop
and had the anodizing removed, hammer filed (if thats the proper term) and polished them.
They have been on the car in raw aluminum since 03 with little maintanice and still look great
although it's not in the sun much. The inlays,in my opinion clean them up as best as possible
and leave them. I've never seen them improved with work or product.
Ya I was one of those fix it with fiberglas back in the day guys. Never had a welder or the talet to use it
but couldn't afford to pay someone to do it,,so ya do what ya can.
The last pics you posted remind me of the time I drove mine to the paint shop, no doors, fenders, hood or trunk lid, trim or glass.
Will enjoy following your build!
Fred
I'd rather do it myself if it's done right or not,,,isn't that what hotrodding is all about

Looks like you are moving right along. Keep up the good work. Do you have a color in mind for the finished product?

Back to black, but keeping the red interior. Taking the car apart is easy, the build won't go as fast. Doing it all myself and help from you guys.
