I've had my 64 comet far about 3-4 years now and have to replace battery. would like to get one that would be like the original. I does anyone know what type that would be? autolite, motorcraft, or a mercury battery?

Re: battery
Should be an Autolite "Sta-Ful" Group 24F battery. They are reproduced but arent cheap http://www.antiqueautobattery.com/batte ... G24FA.html .
A better choice would be a modern maintenance free 24F battery with the hold down tab/notch on the side ...you can find them if you look around. I think Napa and Exide have the hold down tab.
If you want the original look there is a battery top cover that mimics the look of the Autolite battery. http://qualitymustang.com/autbatcov.html

Re: battery
I have the 24F exide in my 66 Mustang, it has the tab for the battery hold down and seems to be a high quality battery so far. I have had it for 34 years with no problems sitting through the winter without a trickle charge.

Re: battery
i just bought one at kragen today, i buy the 124f, it has the tabs, and a smooth top, so you can put the $30 cap on it and does a good job of fakeing the old autolite sta ful with out shelling out $350!

Re: battery
opps Maybe I bought it when I was 8 years old! I meant 3 or 4 years. I just looked, bought it in the summer of 06 so I guess it has been almost 5 years. Time flies and I guess I should proof read my post.comethead wrote:Boss/Cyclone wrote:...seems to be a high quality battery so far. I have had it for 34 years with no problems...
