Filter in gearbox?
Filter in gearbox?
I have a mercomatic in my 64 caliente. The oil needs to be changed. I wonder if somebody knows if there is a filter inside the gearbox that needs to be changed and where in that case I can get a hold on one. Is the mercomatic the same gearbox as ford cruiseomatic?
Re: Filter in gearbox?
Mercomatic, Yes there is a filter. NOT replaceable, just clean the old one with brake cleaner or gas.

If that trans is the same as the 2 speed used in falcons it would appear to have a filter which appears to bolt in so should be replacable.

Re: Filter in gearbox?
So obviously replacements are not available. In that case the best you can do is just try to clean it and reinstall.bmmaurer wrote:Replaceable but pretty much unobtainable...Comechero65 wrote:If that trans is the same as the 2 speed used in falcons it would appear to have a filter which appears to bolt in so should be replacable.
