survey
I will be starting my 64 cyclone project in January. I plan to build a mean small block with a 4 speed. Will mostly be 1/8 mile drag. Im torn between building a gasser (straight axle) or a as modified original as would be in the 60s. I love the gassers but hate to cut a cyclone.
SO , What would you build??

Re: survey
I guess it would depend on how good a car it is to start out with. Personally I am not a fan of the gasser look but a lot of folks like them, I am, however a fan of keeping a car looking period correct.
Lastly it depends on what you really want, your car, your money If it is something for personal enjoyment and not to resell I am all for doing just what you want.
See Ya,
Mike

Re: survey
I'll vote for modified original. since it is a cyclone. doesn't seem like many 64 cyclones left. I think it would stay more valuable too, & easier to sell, if you ever wanted or needed to.

That day will always come. Not a gasser platform in my opinion.

Re: survey
Do what you want and makes you happy. I'm not a fan of the gasser look but then again, there are many who don't like the Pro Street look that I like.

Re: survey
Mike, ill put you down as original (stock aperience ). To fallow up, I got the car from a guy that used the drive train ,interior and some other parts on a falcon build, I think he built the wrong car.

I am also in the not a gasser crowd. Do period correct modifications if that is the look you are after? Brian

Yup. Aren’t those days over? The days where you’d part out a cool car just for the drivetrain?!?Lip Ripper wrote:Heezadumazz.
Seems silly with the abundance of parts out there.
Anyhow I like the modified period look. Gassers look cool...not with a Comet though.

Re: survey
I fell into the same thing yrs ago,,bought a 65 2drht comet,289 4spd bucket seats,,as nice a car as my 64 was when I 1st got it ,really better as it was a factory 4spd just had a blown clutch,,,was into building mustangs back then ,I needed the 289 and a buddy needed the 4spd,,so we split the 150 dollar price tag and the rest went to the crusher,,,,had I known what my mind set was going to be a yr or so later,I would have crushed the stang and would still be driving the comet.....but I didn't and I can't ponder on it,,but sometimes I think I cut myself shaving on purpose when it crosses my mind.... .....POPLip Ripper wrote:Heezadumazz.

Re: survey
But you couldn't have driven that 65 at night because the headlights went the wrong way, right Pop?

Re: survey
well you are probably correct,,,let me say this......that 65 had I kept it,would have been on many COON HUNTS,because of those stacked head lights....that's what they do best..shine up in the tree limbs...... ......thanks jim.............popJims65cyclone wrote:But you couldn't have driven that 65 at night because the headlights went the wrong way, right Pop?

Re: survey
Doesn't have to be stock just period correct, I guess the best way to think about it is if I went back to the 60's with my Comet it would fit in, that doesn't matter if it is a gasser or a restoration.sursmilie64 wrote:Mike, ill put you down as original (stock aperience ).
I guess I am not even staying true to this because I am lowering my car and not sure how much they did that in the 60's I remember everyone jacking the backs up and putting huge tires on them sticking way out, but that may have been more in the 70's, kinda glad that fad ended
See Ya,
Mike
Re: survey
Another NO to the straight axle swap. My brother had a 61 starliner with a straight axle swap and that car was brutal to drive around. Combined with a spool in the back, this was a violent ride. Ended up selling... My suburban is straight axle, bounces over everything.
BUT.....a crowd gathered everywhere it went. Of all the cars we have owned, this received the most attention. If not a driver and looking for attention, this will bring it.
