I ordered a bung and plug to install in my gas tank. My question is; what is a good way to install it? Do I weld it, braze it, solder it or epoxy it. It's a steel bung that was used for early Mustang tanks and it has a lip on it.
Thanks

Gas tank drain plug
Re: Gas tank drain plug
Tig weld is probably the best way, but a mig with gas would do pretty good. Is this a new tank? for a comet? & it doesn't have a drain already?
Re: Gas tank drain plug
It's an old comet tank with a plug and I broke the bung off trying to get the plug out. I drilled the plug and used a easy out which didn't work. I'm bad

Re: Gas tank drain plug
Just in case it’s not obvious, run a torch over either the fill hole or drain(bunghole, lol) to burn off any fuel/fumes. That way you don’t get a nice surprise when you start the weld.

I plan on cleaning out the tank exceptionally well, then fill with water just up to the bung hole, then I'll torch it.
