Drag Challenge Australia
The Comet just completed Drag Challenge here in Australia, its the Aussie version of Drag Week, it has done all 5 of them now, this time I didn`t get a chance to drive it after the rebuild before the event but it had no major problems, we travelled around 1200 miles from track to track over the 5 days, going through dust storms & heavy rain storms & heat, it ran its quickest time ever on 1st pass day one, 10.61 @ 126.68 mph & I had a little lift cause the cross wind pushed me to the center line at about 1000ft, on that run I lost the crank pulley so had to find one, thanks to FB I had 3 guys offering a pulley & a guy I knew drove to the track with a pulley, bolts & crank bolt & washers, fitted that up with some washers as spacers to align the belt & borrowed a belt from another guy that was a bit long & rubbed on the alt bolt but made the 6 hr drive to next town & I could buy a shorter belt, the new bigger radiator I fitted & coolant I was using fixed the overheationg in traffic problem & was tested in very heavy traffic on the last day, 1 1/2 hrs at walking pace coming into Melbourne but the trans cooler braided line melted the nylon braide off it with the trans heat so had to make another line up at the track, I ran the new 235 tyre class & managed to come in 5th place in the class, the track staff found my pulley & I got it back on the last day when we returned to the same track, it has some of the track embedded in it, heres some pics from the week of some of the Fords , there was about 200 cars. Congratulations, John! Quite the endurance event. The "grumpy lump" in the fourth pic from the end has to be the biggest one I've ever seen. Can't imagine driving 1200 miles looking around that thing.

Re: Drag Challenge Australia
thanks guys, its a tough event, about 30 cars didn`t make it & last year about 60 cars dropped out. Jim, the green capri is a friends car he has another scoop he drives with that is smaller although not by much, its a very impresive car, ran 8.49 with an aspirated 440 windsor

Hi Roger, Phil did well with the big Falcon, its a nice car & hes a top bloke too, just missed out on a 7, he did a bit of damage trying to get it, think he ran a 8.1. John
