Re: How to ID a 289 vs. 302

Those numbers on my block are L 1 8 F Anyone have any thoughts? sounds like they missed with the stamp.Yours is a 65 so it would have been a 4 . they must have missed with the year number & isn't showing & you only have the L for dec & 18th day . so if it is the original motor the build date on the...

Re: How to ID a 289 vs. 302

the assembly date of the motor would be the easiest to see. if it hasn't ever had the block re surfaced it should be on a little pad in front of the driver side head. https://i.postimg.cc/qMtSNW7J/100-6087-LI.jpg my old 289 decodes as 4M26B = 4 =64 M= november 26=26th day & B I think is second shift...

Re: My cat does not sit level------------

I think the rear generally does what the front does ,at least on mine but I stiffened up with sub frame connectors. but I'd bet if you swap sides on the front coil springs it might even out ,or at least some. it would be labor only & should change it some,& that's easier than swapping leaf springs. ...

Re: Parts I would like to find-----

the 2 center pieces are stainless but the 2 side pieces are chromed pot metal & WILL bubble if rechromed poorly. They are super hard to find & 64 was slightly different. I might could get his ph number if you want it. this is one of his pics; https://i.postimg.cc/59vD7SZN/97669514-2999697386782957-5...

Re: CYCLONE to CALIENTE Rear Molding Conversion (was: Dimensions of CYCLONE & GT Inserts?)

Well you ought to know!,you & I are picky to about the same degree. :D the first one I liked but it seemed shorter than the cyclone font, & I didnt like seeing the end of the insert.so I went back ask if they could make it just a tad taller font & make the plaque longer to go under the flag to...

Re: CYCLONE to CALIENTE Rear Molding Conversion (was: Dimensions of CYCLONE & GT Inserts?)

well the area that needs to be cut doesn't show, the flag covers it. so the main thing is not to bend it when cutting. . I can't remember how I cut it for sure but I think I used some scissors & just cut a big V out. Or it could have been a utility knife with new razor blade in it laying on flat woo...

Re: Bench Test a Cyclone Tach

should be easy to just unhook the coil wire & test it on an old car under the hood ,(with stock ignition/dist) of the era. I've heard some of the newer high perf stuff can fry these old tachs. here is a tad newer tach but same wiring.

Re: PSA: '65 Gauge Fonts

It turned out pretty nice but, as said above, the white was too white vs. the other gauges. That said I suspect the only person who would ever notice is me (is that close). But of course, outside this forum, the only person who ever notices any deal on my car is... well... me. ;-) OK show us pics o...
