Re: Lou's 65 Comet Build

I'm surprised you didn't cover the whole lanyard,,,or at least up past the part that looks to be rubbing on the hood trim. :? btw, did you use sealer in the windshield rubber? if so in each of the prior attempts ? thinking I may set it in dry at first just to see if the bottom will have any trouble...

Re: Lou's 65 Comet Build

It all looks great, Lou! 8) Very creative use of heat shrink. I've only used it for electrical projects, but it can obviously be used for lots of stuff if you think outside the box. Jim Thanks Jim. Yea once you think of heat shrink as a universal covering it opens up many uses. Started with t...

Looking real good Lou, the heat shrink makes it nice and clean, how does it hold up?
Thanks Lee. I bought the better heat shrink so I hope it holds up. But don't really know for sure. But it is easier than painting and I don't think it will chip like paint does.

Re: Lou's 65 Comet Build

Looking good Lou! It’s the little details that make a difference. When I was building my Comet I wanted to keep the heater but the rubber hoses interfered with the valve cover. I decided to move the hose tubing location, I soldered copper tubing to the core and moved the holes in the firewall. I us...

Re: Lou's 65 Comet Build

I so very much needed to see this.especially that last pic! :D my flange was wavy & not put together right in places with one side of flange higher than the other. I had been trimming it & getting the waves out a while back. Now I know how I will check it all . So Thanks again. been in the back of ...

Re: Lou's 65 Comet Build

Some more detail stuff for engine. Wasn't happy with how long the oil dip stick stuck up so I cut 5" out of it. https://i.postimg.cc/6QFGxC1T/IMG-8005.jpg Still thinking of blacking it out,,, but for now leave it chrome. Bent up the fuel line from pump to carb, used 3/8 steel tubing https://i.postim...

Re: Lou's 65 Comet Build

More little stuff. Really want the engine compartment to look simple, minimalistic. Which involves making things blend in instead of sticking out. Finally got the right fan spacer for my setup, but it is open and you can see the mounting bolts shaft. https://i.postimg.cc/cLjrN9yN/IMG-7982.jpg Was ju...

Re: Lou's 65 Comet Build

Going with couple smaller update post instead of long one. One of the other loose ends I still had to deal with was the heater hoses. With the tall valve covers the bottom heater hose didn't work. I bought the plastic 90 degree elbows but didn't really like them. Decided to go with preform hoses. Co...

Re: Lou's 65 Comet Build

WOW been awhile since I posted any updates. Been making progress mostly odds and ends, little detail stuff. Got my hood pins and lanyards finished. First took the lanyards and put some heat shrink over the crimps, think it looks cleaner. https://i.postimg.cc/Kjbm9mDz/IMG-7958.jpg Also used some cabl...

Re: Root's 64 Cyclone Build

Thanks Jim. My 8” measures Housing flange width - 52.5” Perch C/L distance - 43” Need to pull drums off to measure axle flange width. I think I will stay stock width unless someone gives me a logical reason to narrow it up. I have no idea what rims I want to use. Maybe some 15” Weld pro stars or ro...

Re: Root's 64 Cyclone Build

Can anyone tell me the pitfalls of using a 56 1/2” flange to flange 9” housing! In my mind I only see it affecting the rim offset. Am I missing anything else? I currently don’t have any rims so getting what I want I would think make this a non-issue Only possible pitfalls I can think of with 56 1/2...

Re: Building my 65 Comet

Thanks, that does look like a good start. I really am looking for more of a race car. I don't want to screw up another nice car that could be someones cruiser. They only made so many and we need to save the nice ones, not butcher them like I usually do. Seen this on Facebook,,,think he is a member ...
