Re: Lavron's '64 Build Thread

Welcome to the exciting world of wiring my Comet, I decided to just do an update once this week because nobody probably wants to see how I wire stuff up :P . I almost have the engine run wiring/harness done, I am waiting on a few more little parts to get here like some relays, etc. but I will give y...

Re: 61 comet Painting the black parts with?

Pretty sure the interior paint is satin because you don't want the sun reflecting off of things like the dash and blinding you. I just use the Rustoleum Rust Reformer for stuff like headlight buckets (that is currently what is sprayed on the whole outside of my car), it has s a sheen someplace betwe...

Re: Lavron's '64 Build Thread

More exciting wiring today  I think my build has morphed into; "I think I can make that myself out of old junk, build" or "how many mismatched parts can I put together to make a car, build" the only problem with that second one is I think Fred beat me to it. As of today the ICM/coil is complet...

Re: Rotisserie install

Some have, look at Lou's build thread and a couple of others, I went with my plywood tip jigs but any way you can get the car at a convenient angle to work on the bottom is a bonus IMO.

Knocking not only sounds bad it is bad for the motor so you need to fix it.

Re: Finally building my 64 Comet

took the old sway bar off to compare to the new 1 1/8th inch sway bar and wow what a difference in size. Cool progress, I have had a 7/8" swaybar on my Comet so long I had forgotten how small the original was  Seems like I am always waiting on something, if I had enough prior planning things ...

Re: Lavron's '64 Build Thread

Not been a good week to work on the Comet, someone kicked in the door of the church Sunday night/Monday morning and carted off all the electronics (piano, digital projector, sound system, computer, dehumidifier, etc) been dealing with the sheriff's office and trying to get a list for the insurance c...

Re: Lavron's '64 Build Thread

More wiring, but not a lot  I got a couple of things from UPS today, the bulkhead fitting and the weather pack crimpers. I drilled out the hole in the firewall below the right fender and installed the bulkhead and put the outside cable on. https://cometcentral.com/photos/images/2020/06/26/4536...

Re: Lavron's '64 Build Thread

Got the starter relay mounted and wired up, I decided the factory part would be the best to use in case of failure on the road, it mounts right where the starter solenoid originally was on the inner fender and uses the original holes. https://cometcentral.com/photos/images/2020/06/25/73cc079719a9092...

Re: PSA: '65 Gauge Fonts (AMPS conversion to VOLTS)

I did my overlay as white text on a black background. Then took the file (I saved to .pdf) to a local Kinkos. They were able to print it for me onto a semi-gloss self-adhesive vinyl ($.50 for a single sheet). Thanks I will check on that hopefully it will stay attached and won't fade. I bet the extr...

Re: PSA: '65 Gauge Fonts

How are you printing the stickers? I am wanting to to do an overlay for my speedometer because it has glue or pine sap on it and I think I will remove some numbers cleaning it so want to make an overlay just not sure how to print it so it would be colorfast and not fade or wrinkle in the heat and su...

Re: Lavron's '64 Build Thread

Thanks guys I think everyone agrees to I need to limit possible points of failure on the first start, I should have thought about this sooner but sometimes there are a lot of other things to work through and it gets pushed back. I started wiring in earnest today, or I tried too, and discovered I had...

Re: Best set up cooling wise for LA Traffic. Fan or no fan?

I think we had a discussion on this at one time, you might try and search for it, as far as cooling goes thinner is better for a radiator however the thinner the rad gets the more surface area is required so you would need a bigger radiator which would mean a modification to the core support, probab...

Re: Lavron's '64 Build Thread

Going to make a slight change of plans, not going to change my final outcome just change my checklist slightly. I just ordered a clone YFA 1 barrel carburetor to put on my car, right now the head/intake has not been altered except for grinding the top of it but the mounting flange is unaltered. My p...
