Re: Anybody installed a Power Rack & Pinion unit by Unisteer

I believe the brackets will work fine for your motor. If your bottom radiator hose is on the drivers side then it will work. My bottom hose is on the passenger side. As far as the steering column goes I am not sure. I followed the instructions and cut my automatic column down per the instructions an...

Re: Anybody installed a Power Rack & Pinion unit by Unisteer

I installed the power rack on my 63 comet. I have long tube headers from a mustang on it and I did not have any clearance issues. My biggest gripe is that the power steering pump brackets in the kit donot fit a 260, 289 with the early waterpumps. It will fit late model small blocks however. I had to...

Re: 64 Comet Rack and Pinion conversion

I have attempted to work on the rack some more but It looks like Im on the phone more than anything. I cut the 1" off the column, ground down the end of the shift tube installed the bearing and shaft and it all worked including the shifter. But wait, Shaft is to short on the other end by 1" or more....

Re: Vacuum wipers

This might be a little off topic but I bought a 65 tbird years ago from a salvage yard. I could not get my tow dolly back to the car so some of the guys that work there pulled it out with a chain. I looked at the car that had been sitting for 10 plus years roll by me and the wipers started operating...

Re: header..dual/single outlet

I have 2 flowmaster 40's on my little 6 with a split header so I have duals all the way back. My car sounds really good at an idle from the back. Would probably fool some until you get on it a bit. Mine does crack and pop a little when i get off the gas but nothing like the single glass pack I use t...

Re: 64 Comet Rack and Pinion conversion

Well I got a little time today. I ruined the pitman arm puller from autozone the last time I worked on it. Guess I shouldn't have put the impact gun on it LOL. I got a better one from them that you rent in a kit. This time I used a ratchet then I would hit on it for awhile then repeat. It never did ...

Re: 64 Comet Rack and Pinion conversion

Well I got the new rack about a week ago. I started to take out all of the old components off my car. I bought a pitman arm puller and stripped the threads on that in about 5 minutes. I returned it and got a heavier one that I havent tried yet. I might have to put some heat on it. I got everything e...

Your probally right on the 5" Pops. Did the fairlane also have 5 lug 13" factory rims like a comet or did someone change them out?

Re: stock 13" wheel specs 62 comet 4dr??

I had to measure with a tire on. I used a straight edge to get tire width then measured back to rim and subtracted that from both sides. I come up with 6" out to out of rim bead. Inside of the rim lip looks to be about 5.5" I am almost certain that a rim width is measure inside of the lip so I would...

Re: stock 13" wheel specs 62 comet 4dr??

I read that the stock tire was a 6.00x13 bias ply so I would assume that the stock rim would be 6". I have some in my garage with radial tires on them. I will try to get a measurement on them when I get a chance

Re: Comet parts

Body parts are hard to come by. You can find some patch panels on ebay but they do not make full quarters, doors, fenders, hoods, etc. Most of the hoods I have run across all seem to rust on the bottom of the front edge. The last one I had a guy cut it off at the bottom seam and remake and weld it b...

Re: Sitting awhile!

60-63 fenders, hood, trunk lid are the same. Could be some emblem/trim holes are a little different. Doors are the same as well on sedans but hardtops are different ( 63 only, no hardtops made before 63) Hope this helps!

Re: 2" exhaust??

2" would probally be good. I wish now that I would have went that size. I believe stock is more like 1 3/4"? I put a split header with 2 1/2" dual exhaust and flowmasters on my little 6 just like my v-8 car. It has a cool sound at idle but on my first test drive I actually lost some low end torque. ...
