Re: roller 5.0 help
I think I'll get a new balancer and switch to v-belts. Thanks for your guidance. I have been reading too much about 5.0 camshafts and it has me loopy. I planned on replacing the explorer cam with the tfs1 since I have read that it does pretty well with the gt40p heads but I'm kinda freaked out about...

Re: roller 5.0 help
Thanks again guys. I have heard of the Sanderson's but hadn't actually seen them. They are kind of expensive but if they fit without modification, it would be well worth it. There are a ton of ebay headers that say they fit gt40p heads but they probably wouldn't fit in the car. I'm still hoping to f...

Re: roller 5.0 help
Thanks for all the great info. Now I can start acquiring some of the parts. I knew that the gt40P heads might give me a little trouble but I figured I would give them a chance since they were easily available. I originally planned a T5 conversion but am having problems finding one, especially one re...

roller 5.0 help
Hi guys. I’m going to need to lean on your vast knowledge. I picked up a roller 5.0 from a 1999 Explorer with gt40P heads that I am going to eventually shove into my 63 Comet. I think I have a plan for the build of the motor and I am probably going to switch it to a carb since I didn’t get any of th...

Mixing & matching parts
Hey guys. I'm back with more questions. I'm getting ready to go to our big local swap meet and want to be ready if I see some things I want. Does anyone know if: 1. A 1960-63 Falcon gauge cluster fits the Comet dash hole? I'm looking at putting in some custom gauge sets but don't see any aftermarket...

Re: GT40P heads in comet?
Thanks for the links Jim. That is a better version of what I was thinking, but I like it. I hadn't seen one where you can roll it both ways before. That's pretty sweet!

Re: GT40P heads in comet?
Yes sir. I think my plan is to use the 65 V8 steering, like the sticky thread, combined with a Borgeson P/S box. I will also do some version of the Granada brake swap. I see CSRP has a 1-1/2" drop spindle that has struck my interest. I still have a ton of work to do before I start adding parts and I...

Re: GT40P heads in comet?
Thanks guys. It looks like the main issue is with spark plug wires. I haven't seen anything about the headers not fitting between the shock towers which is my main concern. I'm still getting the car torn down but it won't be too long before I have to start putting things back together. I need to sta...

Re: Selling out and moving south
Hey Mike. I know exactly where you are going. When I got out of the Army (25+ years ago) I lived down there in Hollister. We live in the Springfield area now but my wife has family in your area. Maybe we can trade car parts now, haha! I hope your move goes well.

GT40P heads in comet?
Hey guys. I'm still trying to collect parts and have been looking for a 302 to rebuild. I keep running across Explorer 5.0's which have the GT40P heads in them. My understanding is that there is something odd about the spark plugs and that headers would be hard to match up. I'm OK with using shorty ...

Re: Another rear end question
Thanks again for all the replies. I'm still in tear down mode so I'm still not sure what I am going to do. These old car parts are hard to find here in Chevy country so I'm kina at the mercy at what I find and can afford. The big local swap meet is next week so maybe I'll find something that works.

Re: Another rear end question
Hey thanks for the reply. I passed on the ranger rear since it was both open and had a 3.08 gear set. I don’t have a problem with the 8” but they are more difficult to find around here. Plus I figured it would be easier to narrow the 8.8 since I could use a an OE axle shaft. Either way, I’m still on...

Another rear end question
Hey guys - I see that there was a rear end question not too long ago but I don't really want to hijack that thread so I thought I would start a new one. I am going to look at an 8.8 rear end after work from a 1991 Ford Ranger. In looking at the specs, it should be 56.5" wide. My 1963 Comet has some ...

Emblem Removal
Hi. Does anyone have any tips on removing the 'Comet' emblems? I have pried two of them off. I broke the spike off one and bent the second one just slightly. I suspect it will break when I straighten it back out since its brittlish looking metal. I guess I should have waited to take them off until I...
