Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Rootsy, folks, All you guys are trying to help me on this and I appreciate the ideas and time spent I definitely do not have the knowledge and or tools to perform some of these inspections. I will say the car had some of theses same symptoms from day one. So obviously I have not found the root cause...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Marty,
We need to get the 32 out and drive it more. I like that old truck a lot, and it runs good after a lot of work. Top speed is maybe 40!

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Comet folks,
I need some one smarter than me to figure out what's wrong with this car. Still misses at 30-45 mph with light load going up hills is worse.

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Groover, Yes. Same issue. Not sure it affects how the car runs but just seems odd to have fluid setting in that sump of the manifold. Cheryl let me go play in the dirt today at our local tractor club. They had a fun pull. We took the WD45 Allis-Chalmers and it did well. Lots of good tractors for the...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Joe, Folks, Well I checked the pass rear wheel again after another drive last night and the wheel is dry. So it looks like opening that vent on the differential seems to have worked to keep from pushing fluid out that seal. John helped me take the carb off again today. Checking orifices and flatteni...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Joe, Folks, I do not have a vacuum gage. Maybe I should get one?? So I was thinking the same thing on the adjustment screws. So I went back to 2 turns out. uped the idle screw just a touch and then reset the points to .018 inch gap. (it was a little tighter than that for some reason?) We took a 20 m...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Folks, An update on several Comet topics: We put the Comet on the lift again today and removed the vent fitting from the differential housing. Tried a visual look through and it was plugged. Sprayed carb cleaner into it till a very small vent hole opened up. Blew air through the hose to make sure it...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Comet folks, Well our son Eric came by today to see his mom and we took the Comet for a ride. He noticed the miss in the engine at steady speed, say 35 mph! https://i.postimg.cc/g0vhw0pn/IMG-20240512-143531566-HDR.jpg Cheryl and I went for ice cream later, and I think the miss is still there so It m...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Comet folks, I ordered the rear axle seals and gaskets from NAPA for the Comet. I have not pulled an axle before so this may be fun. Any tricks or suggestions would be appreciated. Its car show, cruise in, ice cream time as the weather is finally getting better in our neck of the woods. Someone ment...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Comet folks, Still learning on these cars. Simple things like removing the headlight covers on each of the four headlights. Took off the metal bezel and found that the headlight bulb covers were not Held on with the three screw as typical on other old cars. This had a spring on one side and a clip o...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Comet folks, So Cheryl and I took a ride in "lil red" to deliver some maple products. Then headed to Erie PA and Presque Isle State Park. It is about 35 mile from home and we just don't get there enough! It has 25 mile speed limit for about a 17 mile trip around the Bay and looking out into the lake...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Lou, folks, After reading Lou's recommendations again, I want to check the timing slop. This seems like a fairly easy test to do when John comes over in the next few days. Just another good suggestion to determine possible engine issues. Will try to keep you updated. I still need to get the Comet ou...

Re: Building my 65 Comet

saSSoman8810, I just saw a 65 Comet wagon on Facebook market place last night. I check within 500 miles of Erie PA. I bet it is just waiting for you! It was a red squire version, and the body looked decent. Good luck! It is in Paramus NJ they want $6500 for it. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/i...
